Like the art, but not against the stone as it becomes somewhat "busy". Can you hang the art to the right of the fireplace?

I agree with lisakasp. A vase and some standing objects would look nice on the mantel!

I would place the painting elsewhere and stain the wood frame darker, (espresso, mahogany) so it relates to the fireplace.

I think it's kind of cool, though this post is better suited for design dilemma if you want more input..

I like it. Size of it works well too. I don't think it needs anything on the top mantel. The painting speaks for itself and it's nice to see clear, clutter free design.

The suggestion to stain wood mantle darker is brilliant. Then see how fox art looks.

i'm not sure if the mantle is real wood on not, however if it is, I would stain it black like the fire part. The stones have so many beautiful different shades of brown in it and I feel like the mantle is distracting anyone from seeing those gorgeous colors. I would definable remove the art work and place it elsewhere. You can place some simple brown or even dark rust colored simple pieces to bring out those stone colors. Just make sure to keep it simple as not to distract from those stone colors. A fireplace is generally the focal point of a room and should make the space more inviting. Right now it is a bit too of a busy spot.
