Houzz.com is my drug of choice esp when I need a fix. Whenever I find myself with the TV remote in my hands, it goes straight to Fine Living :-)

Hours is definitely my drug of choice and I love to enlarge the pictures so that I see all the details and it gives me such a great feeling when I'm viewing photos of rooms I just LOVE- ahhhhhh never would have thought there were so many out there like me!!!

I confess I'm a Houzz Binge girl. I will be away for a month or more and then check twice a day. Educational, entertaining, and sometime a little scary. Love it!

I am not alone! Started with "this old house", open houses, trolling real estate sites, HGTV- House Hunter obsessed. I dream floor plans and and wake up thinking about a place I just walked through that is just all in my head. I confess....

I confess that I love the vanilla ice project - I don't love all of the over the top decor and projects but I think it is hilarious. I get angry at people in shows when they make the wrong choice even though I know the shows are usually staged....

I go to almost every open house in town to look at floorplans and decor and backyards, so much that every Realtor in town knows me.

I love the reno part, have millions of ideas , but its hard in Jamaica because you need a lot of money to really do a classy style

I have to admit I am addicted to buying old houses and renovating them. I love taking an old run down house and giving it renewed life. Got hooked after watching so many home improvement shows on HGTV over the years. This site will definitely help. Good luck.

I confess that I peruse Houzz Dilemmas when I really should be doing my homework. Or dishes. Or sleeping. Or bathing...

  • havingfun

melynda, you need a little ranking here. homework and sleeping have to come first. bathing at least every couple days. dishes? well there is always paper. this should give you lots of houzz time. @@@@@@@@ (laugh)

I also watch all the shows mentioned. I also have tons of magazines. I love Houzz and Pinterest. I am subscribed to tons of blogs websites on home decorating. I am also interested in survival stuff and living off the grid. I also love gardening and landscape design. I just can't get enough! I eat, sleep, and breath this stuff! And, the best part of all, everyone that knows me know about my addiction!

I confess I can't stand "Flip or Flop" . I find Tarek and Christina annoying, and the houses are totally generic.

I like "Fixer Upper" and "Property Brothers". Though, I am amazed by the budgets of some of the young couples on Property Brothers (and amused by the buyers' disgust with the imperfections of the fixer-uppers.)

I LOVE "Rehab Addict". I relate to Nicole, being a small woman and having bought a giant antique fixer upper at age 30. But she's far more awesome than I. I want to be her when I grow up!

And I subscribe to both "Old House Journal" and "This Old House" magazines.

  • alh1881

And speaking of old-house "porn", has anyone seen the movie "Crimson Peak"? The director had the house built just for the movie. I sure wouldn't want to live there, but it' absolutely magnificent in its decaying splendor.

alh1881 - I'm with you on that ! I feel like I must be out of touch when I wonder how a very young guy with a pregnant wife can afford the payments on a seven-hundred thousand $$ house !!!!! What do they do for a living ??? And , who would pay that much for an awful row house that's full of rot and bugs !!!???

Jennifer, give yourself credit. You know the most important things and your designer does not. That is what you and yours like and what you do not and what you have that has a story or meaning for you. Nobody can tell you these things.

Reading this thread makes me sad to think about all the wonderful decorators/designers that created such gorgeous rooms, ie Micheal, Debbie, Lynette, and all the beautiful books about French, cottage, country, farm, Ehglish, etc. decorating. It is so sad that none seem to know how to get the cozy, comfy. glam look any more.

Another confession I have to make is that of all the products I save to my ideabooks I could probably not afford most of them I just save them because I like the look of it
  • Kathi Steele

dreamhomechicc, you don't have to be able to afford them. You can do the IDEA of them!! I remodeled my kitchen based on one picture I found....

Does mine look exactly like that? Nah, but it is the idea of that. Besides, those hanging lamps are over $900 apiece!!!

@havingfun, you should seek her out. I've been pleased to see on "other" threads that Sophie has a great sense of humour. Not surprising, if you're a fan of dry humour such as myself. Not that I creep Sophie... :-D

I confess that our next home improvement project is being done only because I have an irrational fear of snakes. Bulldoze a concrete patio, rock walls and surrounding landscaping and replacing with a deck and other materials that will not welcome what I refer to as "bad things" back to the area as a nesting ground. (My DH is the greatest).

I confess that I look through all the houses on Redfin and Realtor, etc... and marvel at how many are house rich and taste poor.

  • havingfun

i confess i find it terribly confusing that houzz and most mags preach individuality. most designers say they are tired of grays and white subway etc. yet when someone needs help they are encouraging them to paint gray again.

and so many seem so well traveled, yet they insist that people from the south or other countries are making a mess because they like bright colors, etc.

  • Kathi Steele

havingfun, I thought it was just me! My DIL makes fun of me for having different flooring in different rooms. I think it suits the way the room is used. I have different paint colors in different rooms. Apparently, I am in the decorating dog house!!!

  • auntthelma

Kathi, I have a 5 room house with four different floors. Unless you count bathrooms. Then you have to add three rooms and three more floors.

I confess to being a house critic when we go for a drive....luckily my hubby has a sense of humour :) I'm, " neon house numbers, what were they thinking!" or " columns that belong in the Roman Forum on a tiny bungalow, why?"
  • Kathi Steele

auntthelma, when you stand at my front door you can see 5 different types of flooring. I have another in the bathroom and another in the laundry room. That is just on the first floor!!! I. don't. care!!! I like my house the way it is!!!
