Banquette with 1/2 wall

I am installing a banquette in kitchen. A 1/2 wall will be the back of it. on the other side of the 1/2 wall is set of steps going down! Yikes! Don't want any grandkids falling over if they stand on banquette while moving around. and don't want to block the view into the other room any ideas ?

You could install a decorative screen/window. Pick an open design that matches your style.

This is shown from a remodel on the Houzz Room of the Day story today. (it's a banquette on the other side of the shelves). I agree it would be a little nerve-wracking if your grandkids are toddlers. Short of vigilance and stern reminders, maybe placing some potted plants along the wall?

Would wrought iron ballisters go with your house? They are in style and not expensive so you can remove them later. A black would not be noticable. Not like white spindles. Pic from ironwinegates.com

I thought about wrought iron in some way or a piece of glass like when they use it as a railing. I like the screen/open window idea. Two youngest girls are 4 & 5. Chairs there haven't been a problem cause chair backs are so tall. But chairs are gone and a banquette is being built soon. They don't stand on chairs but they do switch places in booths in restaurants so I'm concerned about them moving around in kitchen. Don't want it to be a constant concern. Want it safe. Thanks so much for all your ideas. Never posted anything before! I'm Not on Facebook . Thanks again
