It's beautiful.. a great area rug will tie it together and bring it more warmth and less of the wood floor. Window treatments will make it even more cozy. and Maybe some pictures on the wall as well.

I would switch up the pillows, more color and pattern. Definitely an area rug and curtain panels. A bold patter on the panels would give drama, or something neutral to blend with the walls but add warmth to the room.

The windows look like huge black voids at night, I'd get some curtains, this will soften the room, don't know if you need a rug though..I think lighting is your problem actually, what is lighting the room now? I think you have very nice taste and a good feeling for decorating, but the light isn't right

Any room with only overhead lighting on at night is going to look and feel unwelcoming.
You've done a great job so far.

I agree with the suggestion to add an appropriately-sized rug.

I'd like to see a console table or a beautiful wooden commode with a lamp on top and some art hung behind it where the black metal thing is now. The black metal stand is not providing any warmth or richness to the space.

When it comes to window treatments, I think keeping it streamlined would be best. I like the suggestion of inset shades / romans.

I don't think you need to change the pillows if you get a rug with enough visual interest and one that relates to the rest of the room's contents. Usually, one picks a rug first, then picks accessories. You might find it difficult to go backward, but I think it's doable.

Since you're going for a contemporary look, your instincts were right not to use an area rug and curtain panels. For your windows, white Silhouettes would be gorgeous and will add the warmth you're looking for. My only other suggestions would be to group the items on your coffee table closer together to make a unit of "three," and to use bigger, bolder accent pieces in the wall unit behind the couch. It's a beautiful room, congratulations!

An inside the casing window treatment as mentioned above. An area rug with color and pattern. Where the metal etagere is now, change it out for either a piece of art, or a wood cabinet or shelving unit or table with decor items of some type with color/texture/variation rather than clear glass.

You need more soft - area rug, drapery and warm throw blanket on the sofa.
Don't like the cluttery metal shelf in the back ground - I'd go with a solid wood piece there or a great piece of art. Can you move that to another room?

Use inspiration from my accessory shoot from a local magazine to show you how you need to accessorize to warm up your space. Start by bringing all kinds of stuff from the store, and trying them out. What is making the cut, what has to go back.

Accessorizing isn't easy - it takes time to get it right - be patient, try different things.

I'd actually go for one big item on your coffee table, then add a stack of your favorite books or magazines, maybe if red is your accent colour, some gorgeous beefy candle holders with bright red candles - or red candle holders with bright white candles.

Your room is flat lining - and you need to crisp it up with hits of chrome, white, red, etc. I'd actually do your drapery in your red colour - if you can commit to that accent colour for the next 5-10 years.

I would recommend Decorative drapery on the larger windows and Mock roman valances on the smaller ones in the same fabric .

Love your room...agree with many others..adding a rug and drapes will create immediate warmth.

I would keep the drapery style consistent. You can do full drapery on all of your windows. And always position the rod as close to the trim/ceiling as possible without touching, it will make the statement more dramatic. You can op to include the large higher window in the drapery for the window below it, or leave it out. I can't see what the ceiling looks like above it, but I am guessing it would look better to just leave it out. On that back wall you can do one continuous rod and hang drapery on it so it won't look broken up. You can also choose to use blinds or shades on each window for more light control.

Nice space! Go with your instinct. I believe you can pull off the rest of your "look" once you select a rug.

Have the two couches face each other and the two chairs face the fire place, this will give you an easier entrance physically and visually into the area and be more inviting. An area rug big enough to cover the main area under the furniture will also bring warmth.

Personally, I like your furniture arrangement. The first problem I noted was the metal etagere - it's not tall enough for that wall and the curves are fighting with the window mullions and the straight lines of the coffee table. I think that wall is screaming for a large, colorful piece of art, with or without a table under it. Make sure there's a light source for it, whether it's a lamp on the possible table, or simply a picture light. To me, the light blue (or is it gray?) on the chairs ins't strong enough to stand up to the wall color, but if you find a fabric that, instead of matching the color of the chairs like the pillows do now, has a deeper shade of the chair color and a tan similar to the wall color, you can pull it all together. Then pick your accent color or stick with the red. Of course, it's impossible to know if my screen is actually showing me the real colors of your room. But either way, I'd like to see a deeper shade of the chair color represented on the sofas, even if it's in another solid pillow. Great work so far - everyone is right about a large rug and needing something on your windows. If it were me, I'd go with romans or with something like Duette shades that have a narrower profile. If going with Duettes or similar, I'd have them draw from the bottom up unless you have cats that like to sit in the window sills. And for roman shades, my preference, I'd have them mounted below the mullioned lites so you don't cover up that pretty detail. Good luck!

Oh - and instead of a console table under the art, you might consider a square or round table in the corner created by the two sofas, roughly the height of the sofa arms to make it easily useable. Anything tall on that table - lamp, flower arrangement - will bridge visually to the artwork and will also emphasize the lovely high ceilings.

very good job i will add very colourful big art picture or two and some decoration in similar color like on the picture ...I m not sure about the curtains becouse the windows are beautiful maybe some simply but not too heavy and cushions in this color and other in the cast ... rug not necessarily becouse the floor is very nice too

You did a great job! I would definitely add some window treatments, maybe a white or burlap solid. Then some pillows! I suggest looking on Etsy for those, they have such a large, adorable selection. They are great quality too!

This room looks like a great space, but it feel kind of Blahh - for lack of a better word. It need some kind of exciting focal point. I would suggest adding a bold color or vibrant pattern in the room either in window treatments, area rug, or upholstered material. The touch of color in the pillows is not enough.

Great room! Where did you get your coffee table? Rug, window treatments, and floor lamp would be great. I would maybe move the baker's rack out, it's not a contemporary look.

As others said, very nice start! Something tall where the cart is would be better. For warmth, how about adding a graphic brass bowl for the coffee table (story CB2). Then add a modern brass bar cart (see Pinterest, I found a really nice one at Homegoods) with artwork. Artwork could even include a favorite saying painted in orange via free hand brush stroke and framed. Adding an area rug would add warmth. There are some great carpet tile companies (in Houzz products) and you could pick a bold stripe or plaid pattern. Lastly, I like paneled drape panels with wide bottom stripes (see etsy).

I love this room. Very calm, sophisticated and uncluttered. Window treatments are needed. Hunter Douglas has some great window treatment options for you. Check out their Silhouette or Pirouette shades. Their shutters would look great too. Regardless of which style you decide on, have them mounted inside the openings, covering the entire opening. Treat the upper windows the same way.

I would replace the baker's rack with either a large wall hanging, or a large, tall, substantial wooden armoire-- something old looking with a lot of character.

I don't happen to feel that you need a lot of color in the room. Something as simple as a beautiful vase of flowers on the coffee table will make the room pop. If you feel that you want to add more color, do it with throw pillows because they can easily be changed out to reflect shifts in trends. But if you plan to get a rug, choose the rug first, then find pillows that coordinate with the rug and wall colors.

Beautiful room - definitely a fabulous start. My recommendations would be textured thick pile area rug, replace the bakers rack with a painted wood bookcase… books always provide a cosy feel, roman blinds on the windows - perhaps two colours in horizontal bands (one band in orange as this appears to be your accent colour). Couple of round lamp tables either end of the sofa with large statement lamps (plug points inserted into floor). Lamps can be switched to come on from a wall switch. I personally would also add up/down wall lights - but it depends on whether you want to now start channelling into the walls! Perhaps a couple of orange cushions and orange glass lamp bases. Either a couple of large artworks on walls or a 'photo wall' with family photos in black/white frames. All mounted close together but not too symmetrical. Existing potted plant does't add much - go for a very tall planter and large 'tree'… ficus or similar. Can be artificial providing its a realistic artificial! I'm hoping you also have a mirror in the room…. on the side that we can't see as this room is asking for a large ornate mirror.

Great beginning!! Easy to add to warm things up a bit and make it more welcoming: a rug, plants, window treatments that are fabric draperies for softness ( not shades ),pillows, flowers on the cocktail table. Good Luck and have fun with it.

Rug for warmth

Beautiful room. Do you need privacy for the windows? If yes, I'd do the silhouette shades. If not, sheers that play off the colors in the room. Check out an arc floor lamp. It would compliment the look you're going for and add great light.

I think a rug and window treatments would really warm the place up. I like the size of you sofas/table. Work nicely together.

Personally, I would never cover the windows- the moulding is beautiful and adds to the rooms personality. You might consider some sort of floor lighting by the couches to brighten the room instead of overhead lighting. Maybe put something, a large colored platter/bowl on the coffee table for interest..you don't strike me as a clutter person..
