We are trying to purchase our family room furniture, but before we even go there, we need to decide first on what we need, specially the size and type of sofa we are purchasing.
My husband wants the layout that he taped on the floor, and my opinion is having a sofa (instead of a sectional like he suggested) by the window and 2 nice chairs facing each other on both corners of sofa with coffee table in the middle or even having a sofa that has two chaise chairs attached on both corners. I don't like the idea covering up the wine cellar that we built with a sectional, but I'm open to any opinion... We are going furniture hunting today... Thanks for your help!

3 seater sofa and 2 chairs. have the chairs match each other, complement the sofa.

'the trouble' with sectionals is they only do one thing. they are a giant mass of a single color of fabric, in a fixed layout. the corner provides no seating, nor room for a side table. if you ever move, or decide to put the sectional in another room, it wont work nearly so well. chairs can come and go and rotate.

IMO, guests do not like chaise seating.

Is that a view to the outdoors on the right hand side. I always like two chairs at an angle with a table between. For reading, coffee, chatting and gazing out of doors. That is why I wouldn't want a sofa of any kind up against these windows.

No sectional. I vote for sofa and two arm chairs

Sectionals are so limiting. Two swivel chairs that can turn toward the conversation area or toward the t.v. might be a nice flexible option for you.
