What are the dimensions of the room?

Is there room to arrange like this? Very odd to not have the sofas in a common seating area.

Can you give susan's layout a try and let us see pictures? Also, picture of the fireplace straight on might help.

Yes, thanks for the help! The room dimensions are 11 by 20 (Short width is actually from wall to the built ins, not wall to wall).

I will try this furniture set up tomorrow and get back. The reason I didn't like the couches that way originally was both because the TV then has no seating (we definitely use it), I need access to the built in cupboards on at least one side of the fireplace, and also I really didn't like the view from the front door of the back of the couch. I'll take pics to get feedback...

I re-did the room scale I had at 13x20, so at 11x20 I don't think you have room for chair by door. Does the door open in or out? I see that your tv is to the left of FP so that sofa is placed and the chair for best viewing.

Definitely with a rug, but a rug that is just a tad bit smaller to help make the room feel larger! Plus, who wants to hide those gorgeous hardwood floors! I would rotate your rug the opposite direction the rug is not a rectangular space, but you can add length if you rotate.
