Just looked into NXR. They got a 56-60 on CR. If I'm not mistaken NXR and Thor are the same company or at least the same factory. My point is at any price range there are problems. I owned a Viking that out of three year I owned it the oven work like 6 months of that. And no it wasn't used brand new out of box for me. What are the worst of the evils. I'm looking for people that have experience with the listed ranges.

Trying to figure out a gas range. Thought Blue Star or Capital and read a lot of horror story complaints. Do you think GE, Thermador etc may be better?

Nothing wrong with Bluestar or Capital but folks who are overly anxious and less than handy with incorrect expectations.

Would you recommend Bluestar or Capital over Thermador or Wolf? I read how Wolf has a problem with blue enamel chipping off, and Therador with exploding glass! I'm looking for an all gas range- 36inches. A lot of reviews are from a few years ago. Any feedback that's recent (2015-16), I'd be happy to hear about.

I have a Blue Star Platinum (Nov 2015 install) and love it. Prior house I had Viking and was unhappy with the enamel drip pans (difficult to clean). The Blue Star is an open burner design - if you like to cook you will love it - powerful, easy to clean, and simple - no gimmicks.

I have bluestar arriving in two weeks. I can't wait. I'm so fascinated with the open burner idea. The way the burner is designed.....looks like it will cook so even. So I think Thor is a great value and reviews seem good but they need to get themselves into show rooms. But once they do I'm sure the price wil, go up over $3500. And the bluestars open burner model starting at $4003. No brainer.

Best value is Big Chill because they skip distribution, you are buying direct from the company. It's a $5000 range priced at about half that. No brainer!

We have a Bluestar 36" RCS (not the RNB) open burner and love it. Had it installed as part of our re-model in September 2015, and have been cooking on it 4-5 nights/week and it's been fabulous. Highly recommend!

We went with the same. It's all hooked up just waiting for the electrician to get the electric hooked up.

Can't wait to start heating that bad boy up.

I'm loving mine. New kitchen done in mid May, so I've been using it for a few months and it's great. Only thing I will warn, keep on eye on your food. Pasta water boils SO MUCH FASTER, also, sautee with a lower flame. I enjoy cooking again.

Love my blue star. So happy with it. Not a single problem. The open burners make for a clean look all of the time.

Anyone else out there have experience with the Thor range-top. I had ordered one and then got cold feet and cancelled my order. I am intrigued by the BlueStar and Thermador range tops but once you add the vent system in I am getting concerned about cost!

Bluestar makes the big chill range. It's the same quality as bluestar minus they don't have covered burners, but I don't think that's a big deal. So youget BS quality for less w/ the BC. They also have a new classic range that's pretty amazing. But the 36" is out of your budget.

We have a blue star. Just had it put in last spring as part of a kitchen renovation and I love it! A friends son who is a trained chef recommended it and we are happy we got it.

I don't have experience with the Thor range top, but the range. I would not be concerned about the quality of Thor compared to Blue Star or even Viking. All these high end products are somewhat less reliable than common gas products, and the "pro style" btands use a lot of the same parts for gas control and burners.

In other words, if a gas value or ignition needs replacing the service tech isn't getting Thor or Blue Star repair parts. They identify the part, probably from a German company, and order it.

High end "professional" gas products have always been a bit of a joke. A $10K 48" Viking range is less reliable and has no more function than two $800 common gas stoves placed side by side.

As a builder I installed a lot of Viking. The 48" Thor duel fuel range is the best value I have ever seen for a kitchen where the "pro" look is desired. $4800 vs. $15,500 for the Viking.

Cooking on both side by side the way to guess at the more expensive unit is to look at the label on the door.

I wanted to share that I own the Bertazzoni 36 inch range and bought the extra warranty because I was concerned about performance. I am going on my fourth year and no issues. In regard to the Thor range my sister bought the 48 inch she is heading on 2 years and no issues. All great experiences.

I have a 36" Verona all gas oven and range. I liked the minimal electronics of the stove. I've had it for 4 years and am looking to replace it. It didn't work out of the box and I've lived with 3 out of 4 burners not working for the last 4 years as I got tired of having people over to fix it. Thier repair network isn't great and I've had repairmen refuse to work on it die to thier technical support not being very good. Am looking to replace the stove and am very disappointed with it's performance.

I love my blue star open burner. Working on two years no issues cleans up like a dream.

I appreciate all of these comments. When I check consumer reports, they are NOT favorable regarding BlueStar. I really like what I see. For those who spoke that they loved their BlueStar, how do you like it today? Do you have any issues since you wrote your recommendation? We usually trust CS -- and BlueStar is WAY down on the list. Would appreciate your thoughts.

There are so many pro (vs con) Bluestar people on these threads its starting to make me wonder if they are real. Just saying....every thread on any range eventually turns into a Bluestar commentary.

I have to say this all ‘the younger’ brands get beat up in regard to not having the established reputation. Unfortunately Thermodor and a couple of your reputable brands have dropped their quality standards. On the flip side you have brands like kitchenaid and Miele, that have remained pretty good. Remember when Hyundai first came out, other brands laughed at them until they started taking away considerable market share. The ‘pros’/kitchen designers only jump on the band wagon after the market says so, after all they are often commission based and are not receiving large commissions from the ‘no name’ brands. Why bite the hand that feeds you.

I've had a Thermador and Bertozzoni. No problems. I'm considering ZLine. Like look and price. Few reviews, but good reputation. Does anyone have experience with ZLine?

I love my 36” Thermidor. It’s dual fuel rather than all gas. I like electric better for baking.

OK, love to hear any updates - someone mentioned Zline, which I am looking at. I saw the stuff on Bluestar - its interesting, but if you have a range of cooks, what is a really balanced option? Cosmo, its new, anyone? Verona - I thought cool, but some really negative comments...

We purchased the 36 inch Kucht pro style 6 burner gas range . We absolutely love it. The burners are powerful and two of them can be adjusted to precise simmer. The convection oven works wonderfully too! It is stylish and we have received many complements on it. Did a lot of research before buying and we are very pleased with our purchase.

Unfortunately, no they aren't easy glide. I don't typically pull the oven shelve out when cooking so this really doesn't bother me....I just reach in and grab my pan. I should mention that we had an issue with the oven bottom paint cracking...which was totally our fault. We put foil down on the bottom of the oven when cooking a messy dish and didn't remove it. Called Kucht and they happily replaced it explaining to us the reason the paint cracked. Received my replacement bottom in 3 days. Also asked them about the metal knobs I know they have come out with for my model. They are out of stock but will send them to me, at no cost, to replace the ones that came with the stove. Love their customer support.

Just a quick comment from a statistics guy. I think that people fight about these brands because they misunderstand the nature of statistics and reliability. No one is making a brand that breaks 100% of the time. A very unreliable brand might be one that has a 20%-40% chance of needing a repair in a given year, whereas reliable brands might be more like a 5% chance. If you look at those numbers, they imply that 60-80% of the unreliable brand owners will say that their unit did NOT break in a given year, and even over a 4 year period, roughly 15-40% of the unreliable brand owners will have had no problem requiring a repair, just because they got lucky (I am assuming a very simple model to make a point).

This type of misattribution of randomness drives people to take sides all the time. “I never had a problem! Ratings site X is biased!” Or “person X is biased”, or the reverse. This is a false dichotomy. The aggregate statistics are surely correct, these brands are almost certainly less reliable than a brand like GE or Whirlpool, and that will translate into a meaningful difference in aggregate satisfaction. Will you be dissatisfied? Depends. If one brand has an 8% probability of failure, and the other a 16% chance, neither is likely to need a repair in the first year. Over 5 years, the more reliable brand will have a 66% chance of requiring no service, while the less reliable brand will only have a 42% chance (again, highly simplified assumptions). Is a nearly 60% increase in the chance of needing a repair over 5 years (25 percentage points) acceptable? Only you can say. But there will be plenty of people arguing that a brand with twice the repair rate is “awesome”, even though it isn’t nearly as reliable, because they were in the lucky 42% that didn’t need a repair in 5 years.

5th year and still going strong. Love it. Cleans up beautiful. I mineral oil up the burners and they look show room new.

@w_frederickdesign that was incredibly helpful!! We’re looking at fuel fuel Thor vs Verona vs Kitchenaid. The Thor is much bulkier than we imagined. Do you think functionally there is a difference between 4 and 5.2 cu ft and the less BTUs of Verona?

Bertazzoni all the way. 4 years no issues, excellent customer service. You do need an installer who knows how to adjust the Bertazzoni, or have them help the installer (what we did, they talked him through it, super easy - that was a conversion to propane). Get the simple models without all the fancy stuff. Simple is better with all of these. The more electronics, the more problems. We almost went Blue star but a wide but shallow oven was not sufficient, I need to cook big turkeys. The Berttie is huge. It is also beautiful. The knobs are designed to be unable to turn on by brushing by them, which we love. They come in lovely colors too. So happy we went this route.

Blue Star or Big Chill which is made by Blue Star at a better price point!
