Growing Apple Trees from Seed

I'd like to grow 3 fruit trees from seed-- apple and peach, and one more. Any suggestions for the third one? How easy is it, and how long does it take? Do you know where I can get the seeds?

I'm sure there will be a more comments to follow .

A fruit tree grown from a seed will not make a tree with the same characteristics as the fruit that the seed came from. It is unlikely to even create a tree that has "Good" fruit. That is well known and easily Googled.

However if you still want to grow a tree from seed then do. I am.

About any seeds will grow. You can plant the ones from the fruit that you eat from the supermarket. The only real issue is that most seed must be "stratified" by going through a winter. You can simulate a winter by putting the seeds in the refrigerator.

Best is to collect the seeds in the fall, put them in the refrigerator over winter and plant in the spring. They will most likely grow.

if you want from seed, choose from mango or pommegranate, both will give you reliable fruit trees if grown fom seed and both are very easy and quick...

Mango: after eating a good mango, with a knife crack open the seed, and will be inside a bean, just wrap the bean in humid paper and close it in a sealed bag...(in 3 to 4 days it is sprouting) even in winter...2-3 year and you have fruit

pommegranate: eat one and with your fingers smash some of the read things to get the seeds from inside (do like 20) let the seeds dry for 2 days, then put them in water for 24h and jus sow them on pots or something, from 20, maybe 18 will grow...one month after, choose the bigger one...(do this on spring or summer) you will have your first flowers in 18months (first flowers ever sometimes fall)...you can have them on pots...

I think peach trees from seed have a good chance of making good fruit. I tried one, a volunteer, and the fruit was good. Bloomed in the third season. Some friends of mine have had similar experience wrt fruit quality. The tree was full of pests, but the fruit was tasty! Apples are unlikely to give you something good. Pawpaws from seed, assuming both parents make good fruit, are likely to give good fruit. At least 5 years from seed to flower though.

To make useful suggestions one needs to know where you live, lahulmulk. For example, trying to grow mangoes would not be much use in a non-topical climate. At least, not if you want fruit.

You'll need at least 2 apple trees. If they are both seedlings you may learn if the fruit is good in 5-10 years.
