Best height for Bathroom Vanity Sconces?

I am getting ready to do a gut-to-the-studs bathroom reno. I installed these vanity lights at this height...36" to the bottom of the light shade, from the counter top...20 years ago. They have seemed to be at a good workable height all these years but am wondering if there is a different optimum standard that I didn't know about. While the drywall is off, I'll be able to change any electrical I want to.

Thank you Lights Online! According to your info, the sconces should be MUCH lower.....so that the bottom of the light shade is just below eye level and at a height that the tallest person in the household won't be able to see down into the sconce.

Hi! As a Designer we have the sconces fitting the height of the person that will use it. Generally wall sconces are installed at a height of 66 inches to 72 inches above floor level. This is because you want the light to be eye level, to fill in the sides of your face.
