First thing is to float your existing pieces. Hard to tell from your pics, but I would pull the sofa away from the wall, possibly putting a sofa table behing it, and put the chairs across from the sofa. Get an area rug large enough to have the sofa and chairs sit on it. Some sort of cocktail table or ottoman between sofa and chairs. Drapery panels on each side of large window pulling a color from your new area rug. Add accessories to your shelf unit, and find some art for the blank wall opposite your sofa. Lastly, two tall lamps for sofa table, behing sofa, for ambient lighting. I believe this would be a good start.

What grapefruit said...and put a dimmer on those ceiling lights and lock it on low.

I think we need some other color than just the brown tan orangy.

Reds and shades of blue would be great in an area rug. Once you pick the rug choose drapes and the furniture. Don't choose all patterns. For instance I have a rug with greens, reds and some blue. My couch is solid dark green. Curtains have tan base with red. My pillows are striped with complimenting colors. Also your furniture is currently pushed against every wall. You want to move it out and make a focal point along with conversation areas. My place is small so instead of a coffee table I have an oversized ottoman.

Please take another photo showing the entry into the room and the wall opposite the entry.

--Layout: I agree that in such a large room, the sofa and chairs should be floated away from the walls to create a conversational grouping. If the entry is on the left, then float the couch to face the big window and place the two chairs across from the couch. But without seeing the entryway, it's hard determine the best layout.

--Furniture: Find a coffee table to place between the couch and chairs--not leather but metal like the legs of your furniture. A glass table will balance out the bulk of the leather pieces.

--Anchor the grouping with a fabulous rug that incorporates the leather pieces and an accent color or two. Havingfun's suggestions above are great.

--Hang ceiling-to-floor drapes in white and tan.

--One thing to think about (if you haven't just painted or if my monitor isn't showing the wall color correctly) is painting the room a more golden tan. Both your flooring and the tan of your leather furniture don't play well with your wall color, which is a grayish tan. Can you take a daylight photo? Certainly a patterned rug and curtains would go a long way to bring the different tans together, but right now it's a sea of tans than don't go together awfully well. Harmonize any new wall color with the floor, since you have a lot of flooring and with the more caramel color of the leather.

Hi everyone! Really appreciate all the feedback. There is a dimmer on the ceiling lights, so I will definitely be using it. I should have mentioned that these couches will be moved to the basement, so I am starting completely from scratch...need to buy a new rug, furniture, curtains etc.. The very first photo is taken from the entrance to the room. Please keep your advice coming, it's super helpful!!

People still need to see all four walls of the room to suggest layouts.
