I am in the same boat. Hopefully, we will get some direction! The only resources that I have found have been forums as well. Hard to really know what line of windows people are referring to as well as the timing of the posts (ie. an older post is referencing a product that now has had many updates to it.) My builder is also encouraging Weather Shield Signature Series, as an FYI. I did find this review today which I though was a helpful/objective.

Starting points are what type of operators are you going with and what type of look do you want with regards to materials, color, and styles.

I found the NFRC website helpful in learning the vocabulary, and other basics of windows. They have a "Windows 101" page, a page for what the energy ratings mean, anatomy of a window, and other instructional information for non-professionals.

Perhaps looking at the NFRC website may help you narrow down the type of window you want (casement, double-hung, slider, etc.), and then also read posts on this Windows Forum about pros and cons of wood-clad vs. vinyl, and other information.

Once you have all your information, there is nothing like visiting showrooms to see the windows in person - it really helps make decisions when you can open/close them, see them close-up, look at how they're built, etc.
