Floating vinyl in the bathroom...help!

We're completely remodeling our master bathroom and were planning on laying laminate planking for the flooring. Today when we had a carpet salesman visit for our bedroom he mentioned that he does NOT recommend a floating floor in the bathroom. He stated that due to the expansion gap that is needed water could get under the flooring if we had a flood and ruin the subfloor. Is this a real concern or just salesman talk?!? We have had the same product in our bathroom for 9 months already without an issue.

I have had floating laminate in my main bathroom for 9 yrs no problem. FYI if you have a flood your subfloor under the tile also gets ruined.

key word flood not just normal day to day usage. wood floors would need the same gaps on the edges. tile is the number one choice.

So which floor do you have: floating vinyl or floating laminate? Vinyl is allowed (depending on the structure of the plank) whereas laminate is not. You seem to be using the words "laminate" and "vinyl" interchangeably. They are two different materials.

Please clarify.

I'm sorry, we want to install a floating vinyl plank (Allure from Home Depot).

You are in a good place using a vinyl plank floor in the bathroom, it is waterproof, easy to clean, you can even steam it if you like, it looks like real boards and comes in a multitude of colours. You could do a glue down plank or floating if it has the ability to fit super tightly. You won't be disappointed using this type of product. Durable, looks good, definitely a popular choice.

Has anyone successfully installed a freestanding flat-bottom tub on top of a floating LVP floor? I've been cautioned to use glue-down vs floating, but would prefer to use floating LVP as it will be used in adjoining areas.
