Mind the gap? Or fill in? Or leave as is? And if fill... How to fix?
Comments (40)I own a small design firm. This would also bother me. If I were asked about this professionally after this work was done - and if the client didn't want to tear up the tile and get a larger countertop top and incur that cost and headache - here would be my two solutions. Neither are perfect, but they would no longer call so much attention to the issue. 1) Use the same countertop material - to fill over to the right and left. It would have a seam, but a good fabricator can do this. 2) use a wood transition piece - that looks exactly like the wood vanity (stained and cut to match) to overlay the gap from the vanity to the floor. You can call a finish carpenter to do this. If you don't want to do step 1, you could fill it completely with a wood transition piece. But the difference in the color would call attention to the lines - which I am guessing would continue to bother you....See MoreHow to correct a gap between granite and wall?
Comments (19)Thick bed thinnest, huh? Your tile person will set with a thinnest and a 1/4 trowel you can't just use a med bed thinnest and 1/2 trowel it would be a mess with those tiles. Plus it has nothing to do with building out the wall as it does being able to support heavy stone floor tiles. Not applicable here Tiles are started 1/8 off the counter leaving gap for caulk. Your tile person will take the largest gap and run a tape line using that as the thickness or the caulk. The line will continue maintaining caulk gap regardless of the gap of the wall to counter. This will give you say a perfect 3/8 caulk line with an irregular wall to counter gap. You could also build out wall as noted above if it is short wall but I don't see it being an issue. Buy extra tiles as that bevel will need more throw aways in 90degree corners to match bevel and pattern...See MoreFix for mirror/wall gap?
Comments (10)Wall should have been trued up before this was installed. Not much you can do now except put some kind of border/framing. There are some metal edges, but I'm not crazy about how they look. I would live with it for a while and see if it kind of grows on you. Maybe some sconces on the side walls will help take your eye away from that aspect? Don't have to be electrical if getting wires into the walls is an issue. Just decorative to distract the eye....See MoreFixing a large gap between countertop and wall
Comments (13)Yes, the wall itself needs to be fixed instead of kludged with a molding. You need an integral air seal barrier there between you and the outside. Also, you probably lack insulation there, and it would be a good time to remedy it. One thing that you will learn as a homeowner is that a band aid might be the cheapest initial option, and thus more attractive. It is usually the most expensive option in the long term. Doing a project correctly, once, is the ONLY way to approach home projects. Because it's your pocket from which the deferred maintenance ends up coming out of, not the landlord's. A cheap fix is usually the wrong fix....See Morelefty47
