Pick the counter color you love first. There are limited counter colors but nearly limitless paint colors. Pick the counter to work with the cabinet color and worry about the wall paint color last.

my husband is a cabinet engineer. I know we should pick the counters first but I really love the mahogany cabinets. attached are the corian I'm thinking about

My design instinct says to go for chocolate brown floor covering. My pragmatic instinct says that people find them to be high maintenance. Maybe a cocoa powder colored floor tile look? Are you going with antique bronze hardware? Alternatively maybe you could go really light like an ivory tile look. In any case I would caution against several competing wood tones in a tight space.

Here's a thought... I think a Saltillo type floor tile is timeless and works beautifully with your Tuscan desires. Finding the right shade to work with your cabinet color is the key.

@Darzy Have you seen a Satillo done in a laminate? I would guess that it might look a bit like a commercial space that way, but I haven't seen it in real life.

There's another brand of SS you could consider as well. I like the selection that LG HiMacs has to offer. The Aster and Marmo collections have some looks that would fit in with your Tuscan motif. The Marmo has the look of a travertine which is a stone used a lot in the Mediterranean. And the Aster series has a subtle yet distinct fleck that would compliment your wood tones as well as a Tuscan style decor.

khlodenko. . most likely black or oil rubbed bronze hardware. sink will be stainless along with appliances. faucet a brushed come because we cannot afford a dark sink to match oil bonze faucet

@Ranelle. It's probably just as well that you aren’t going with dark sink hardware. I've been hearing that constant water contact tends to take the dark finish off of faucets, due to either the pH or abrasive minerals in the water. If anyone has had good luck with dark faucets, I would like to hear about that too.

Ranelle, I looked at the Corian website and I see some other options that would fit your Tuscan motif. I'm not sure which ones above you are considering since they are small chips. But I think the brown one may be the wrong tone with your cabinets. Consider a couple factors in your selection: What kind of natural light will you have in the kitchen and/or lighting (note: planning several canned lights in the kitchen will help with prepping food, etc.). Do you want deep rich tones or do you want contrast? If you want rich tones then go with a darker counter. If you want contrast then go with a lighter counter.

I'll try to provide some Corian images of some other options. If I can't paste them then here are names for you to take a look at: Burled Beach, Sonora, Allspice, Riverbed, Sandalwood.

@Finstads. .. sonora and burlwood were ones I was looking at. I thinkung lighter shades. we will have all southern exposure coming into the kitchen and dinning room. I love nautral lighting we even popes out the dinning room to allow more sun to come in. we are putting in 3 drop lights above island and canned lighting in kitchen. I'm thinking about having a black island . these are the drop lights

Love the lights! I have pendants over my island. And I have 3 canned lights over the areas I prep food---wish I had two more. Lighting is important.
