Have you thought about using the same floor that is already present and refinishing to match the new stuff? A custom mill like ours will be able to mill that type of flooring quite easily.

I would use the same floor everywhere as mentioned by the above.

Good news is, your hardwood floors REALLY need to be done...soon. Like tomorrow type of "soon". That means this is a PERFECT time to add in MORE hardwood. These narrow strip woods are easy to come by (may have to be milled because they aren't in stock...but that isn't a big deal...just means you have to wait a few weeks longer for delivery).

These might even be red oak which is a bonus with cherry. Even though the grain isn't the same the tones of red oak and cherry often work well together. If you wish to extend the hardwood (which is entirely possible and done every day by talented flooring installers) into the kitchen, I would spend the $100 to get a species match. You take a small snip of wood from your current floor and send it away to one of the labs that makes this determination. They create a report that tells you which oak you have: white or red.

You then order the same species in the same plank and cut (matching grain pattern is just as important as matching species). The wood arrives, it acclimates for 2 weeks and in it goes.

Everything gets sanded and refinished (because A: the old floor needs it badly; and B: this is the "best" way to install new wood next to old). Done. You are good to go for another 25 years.
