I might be inclined to leave it as is, but it bothered me I'd look for something simple, earthy and circular.

you could also put 2-3 narrow reclaimed or barn wood shelves above the TV, just the depth of the opening for small display items, photo frames.

Build a box as shelving to insert into that space, being certain to leave room for your tv to have air circulate above and around it.

Alternately, a single narrow shelf above the tv, above which you'd panel the indent with wood and hang something interesting on that. Found this searching "images pressed metal wire wall art":

Karlie, I suggest you paint the gold fireplace surround with high heat black paint. Paint or replace you mantel. Then mount your TV. We mounted our TV with a bracket that can pull out and move
