How do you feel about green? Green would tone the brightness of the cabinets down a bit. And it will continue to go with them as they darken with age (cherry does that). Marmoleum makes a nice click flooring:

You can get similar colours in VCT tile for about $0.80/sf. The stuff is indestructible and reasonably easy to lay given a smooth subfloor. When I first got my house and was working on a shoestring budget, I laid a blue and butter-yellow checkerboard floor for about $150. When we redid the kitchen this year (13 years later), all the contractors wanted to know why I was removing my lovely floor. The only reason was because we were taking out walls. That VCT floor was awesome to work on and easy to keep clean.

Thanks Jennifer I will check VCT(I'm intrigue now), but for that price I can get tile from the liquidators as well. The lite green is very nice and fresh.

Keep noticing hardwood floor, no much contrast is like extension of the cabinets, wondering if lite color tile that resemblance wood would look to modern for my very traditional style of cabentry??

If you stand in your kitchen a lot, you probably won't enjoy a ceramic tile floor. It's really hard on your legs and back. That's why most restaurant kitchens have those thick rubber mats on top of their tile.

ummm...guess you right, that could explain my back pain :o/ because that is what I have now 1990 ceramic tile with a nasty 1'grout- sick and tire of cleaning.
