Thank you so much, really like the color of cabinets....do you think I should cover brick with wood & molding....like a lot of the new homes being built are doing..then place flat screen on top of mantel? I tend to have traditional taste....like Southern Living magazine....what do you think of 2 sofas & ottoman instead of a coffee table?

Diana you just nailed it! You know exactly what I am trying to do..go with more neutral colors and accent with rug, pillows & window treatments. I love the 2nd picture in your 1st post....this is great!! Any other advice? I am so excited!!

LOL...I've been called much worse.. :) So you might consider painting those built ins white, add gray to your space ( chair or pillows) and then an accent color ( a pale teal, or a pale light green). Remove the reds, heavy decor and floral. Re think your large painting- although lovely, it also screams Tuscan. Pull most of the extra furniture from your room and then decide what fits back in - not too much ( not every chair will need a side table) . You are aiming for a more elegant but not fussy look. You might want to remove all from the built ins and add back only a few items that have your new colors and add interest. Study the 2nd photo I posted you like to see how they filled their shelves. The little details make the difference. Maybe a glass based lamp with a boxier shaped shade. Hope this helps a bit.

Like the first one the best....wondering if I need to do it in a neutral fabric like the one I saw in your picture. I will look @ dimensions...would love to have 2 for company coming over. I know what you mean about picture....that will be coming down also. I hope to put 1 sofa where existing is now....other if possible in place of TV cabinet or across from other sofa. Putting the TV(does not look like flat screen), inside the bookcase is a good idea. I would not mount it over the fireplace. Your rug is nice, and there isn't a need to change it.

Here's a similar room- we kept the built-ins but painted the back a soft grey. I think yours would look beautiful like this. I would update the mantle and hide the TV behind an art piece (like we did here- the art is remote controlled and rolls up).
