Hi Mic, I am elated that you approve of them both. I may get them both as the price is hard to beat. So how would cream shear drapes go then wit hthis? I think the green has creams and not white. I might go fabric shopping. As for the pink chair that I have since removed. IF I find a nice soothing color that will compliment everything I will get a swatch and then post it, that is, if the el cheapos here will give me a sample. With the brown, should there be additional pillows in shades of greens or leave it brown alone? I have since moved the dresser that the TV was on at the foot of the bed. It look ok I guess. I might post a pic in a minute. Its not final but I was just playing with shifting stuff around.

Of course they will hide that headboard. Cream is a natural complement to this shade of brown. If you find some green pillows you like? Probably. But I'd go with variants of cream and brown accent pillows if you are choosing cream drapes?

Yes, I want cream drapes cuz the lace curtains on the window panes are from france and cream, but its hard to tell in the pics. So where will my greens come in? I love the cream, browns and greens peach those are the colors I find welcoming in a bedroom. I was not planning for a spread this dark but its really lovely.

Sure. And yes I was referring to the back side of the brown. BUT you could tie both looks together ( both sides) by adding brown drapes on the windows with the cream shears on the inside? Basically like your window set up now, but without the knot and a brown that matches the bed.

Green as accent pillows on furniture, vases, whatever you find you like? That's where I'd start. The rest will lead you. I bet you'll be on the hunt and go " this green will look great with my brown"

These are just suggestions of softer. Remember, it's a bedroom. You can always add lamps too.

Hahah. I am actually repainting antique vases that are solid brass in the shades of greens I like. I am redoing an old ikky 60's lame wooden bookcase from my MIL and its will be in the french old shade of green. Pics forthcoming, cuz it should be finished by tomorrow. I hate to throw away any piece of wooden furniture. then the wardrobe I will redo ina shade of green as well. Might that be enough accent pieces? then you say later to pain the frames? I cant wait to enter my bedroom once its done. I think it will take time cuz I dotn want to rush and buy everything at once. I will buy and post pics then you all can tell me yes or no. The brown curtains now up there are too short but I can lengthen them. I only made then December 2011 and used it for a short time in my other place. Its actually the same coffee brown. I can put a pice to the left and right as an accent piece. Will see when the drapes are up cuz all cream with no side panels may look bleh.

I think so! I only suggested re do on frames because there is a lot of different colors going on in those and you need to trim it down to at least 2 main colors on those frames to do cohesive photo groupings. I'm a fan of panels in brown on the outside on each side of your window with cream shear in the middle. I was wondering. Have you considered Austrian balloon type shears in the middle? They still retain an old world classic charm in my opinion.

Oh I was only going on the one you had posted with the brown comforter! Post a pic of the one you're actually considering. Definitely not a fan of the exposed light stems on the one you posted. Bronze would be fine! I'm only showing you some examples of softer than what you posted with the six (I think) lights. That one is very dining room.

I have this lamp and wonder if I can use this perhaps? Its biggish and crystal, its an old lamp I bought over in France some years ago and have used it but dont know how to use it in this new place. I also have another French lamp, tht I used in my old bedroom over at the other place and I loved it. Wonder if it will work here. Let me see if I can find a pic of it. I cant find a pic of the lamp, its simple but cute with three big glass bowls facing down and three arms, also and old French lamp.

Mic, I will buy both of the bedding sets, the green and the brown. I also like brown and cream as a pair for a window with the darker panels on the sides. I dont know what that Austrian thing you are talking about.

The Austrian shade is the middle shear. The neat thing about them is they can be raised or lowered and still look soft and rich which I think would complement your room. Face it. You're in a great country to get the real thing from Austria, which should be available in Gremany according to my aunt Giesela

Oh, its nice, but my husband will MURDER ME. He is already having near a heart attack with my potential design. he will absolutely scream bloody murder at me. I think its nice very nice. But for the room it will actually make the room look really small. I can however put up a choco valance as the front panel and two brown panels to the left and right. But this will work if the room was two times the size. the room is only about 180.5 square feet. Thanks tho. I can see it in a large room just looking so delightful with a chaise lounge etc.

Its a very large crystal lamp with a brass rosette and very heavy with two lights old french fixtures inside. So should I mount this one and the other two and see which looks the best? Should I paint the brass part green?

I will look at them if I go shopping, that is, if I can find a store that carries them. that is not popuplar here at all nowadays. People in Germany tend to do more of the Ikea garbage and love it too. Anything old world or ornate is considred kitch. The older people in the countrysides may use such things. But the city trend is really modern and boring in my honest opinion. Coming to think of it. I have seen this sort of thing in the paper version.

I'd leave it the way it is. It will complement the reversible side of your comforter. I like the light! But I too feel you'd be better off with one that hangs. You know what will look best when you look at your choices and think about the colors you've chosen. See? It's a process that becomes clear only after your major color choices are made.

I never realized that. I love the dark browns and the shades of light greens and creams. I find them luxurious and soothing at the same time. I find white a harsh and aggrevating color to tolerate for too long, reds make me feel happy but in small doses. Pinks dont cut it for me. Yellow I loved in the nature but dont particularly like it inside, tho I have my foyer in yellow and its a bit aggrevating. Orange is a no no, soft blues of all shades is soothing and reminds me of the ocean. I even thought of wedgewood blue for my bedroom. So now I have decided on browns, creams and greens, its a plug in and go sort of thing then? I have two old light fixtures that are hanging and not chandelier types but with multiple glass shades to them. Will put up both and take a pic. I have pics of both and I just cant find them now.

No accounting for taste. That's why it's important to not follow the trends you don't like. I see no reason to get rid of treasured antiques to follow the herd of sheep following the fads. Some design choices are called "Timeless" for a reason. Ikea is not timeless, but I can appreciate the look. At someone else's home.

I totally agree. I like timeless, timeless means exactly that. It never tires. I detest all that modern garbage you see around. I hate those big over sizes sofas etc. They bore me to smithers. Here is the other lamp I was wondering to use in the bedroom. it was in my old smaller place. I will see if I can find the one I had in the bedroom, both let off a lovely light. I love old things. I hate to throw away somethign that has a history to it.

That's a nice light! Oh and yes, on second thought, if you use what you term "the ugly light" I'd repaint the gold a bronze or antique it to tone down the gold. It's so much easier for you to find authentic lights like that! They cost an arm and a leg here! If I lived anywhere near France? I'd be bankrupt.

The color sounds very warm and cozy. I'd find inspiration for your bedding and accessories using any pattern you like that includes that light peach color. Then you can pull the mix of colors from the pattern and use those also to add pops of color to the room. First I suggest pulling everything out of the room and starting from scratch. You can angle your bed out from a corner and place a nice tapestry rug on both sides or at the foot of the bed. Put end tables on either side of the bed with nice lamps. You can never have too many pillows. They add a sense of warmth and coziness to the room. Candles in two different sizes can be placed on a chest of drawers, along with a plant and some books. A water carafe and glass would do nicely also. If you still want your room to emit a sensual feeling, I'd put the pics of the ancestors elsewhere. Try some nice pictures of couples walking in the park or dining in a cafe...... A nice cushy chair and ottoman and a floor lamp may be nice in another part of your room for a reading nook. Sheer curtain panels that drape to the floor would add a little romance to the space. Good luck. I hope all goes well.

New to the thread but my views are as follows

Glad you have a new bed on the way, that will help a lot. I would remove all your wall decoration and look at that afresh. IMO your pictures are all too small for the room.

I would only have the one chair in the room unless this is a dual purpose sleeping and living area. I like the larger one.

I love your floral beadspread. It's really good if you are going for French country. Far better than the other options. I would use this and then use the solid green one like a throw folded and placed over the end of the bed. Find lots of cushions in complementary colours from your floral throw to add to the bed to give it a more luxurious look.

I would then paint the walls a very very soft green and maybe paper one wall with a pearlescent stripe wallpaper in cream/white shades.

If you want to go all put for French country I would consider lime washing some of your furniture to tie it together. Very shabby chic.

Buy a large rug to soften the floor.

Then a beautiful chandelier with lots of crystal drops will set it all off. I'd have a large mirror on one wall.

If you want to keep your little pictures I would reframe so that they are together eg two pictures set into one frame and then have a couple of frames hung together.

Hi Cori Ann. I have tried all those angles you mentioned, its a big NO can do, it eats up the entire room and I love tremendous amounts of space and all other furniture seemed jumbled and out of place. Its a nice idea for a large room, but not this one. NO I dont want sensual hahahah. I want cozy antique. forget the sensual I am too old for that hahahahah. I want peace and quiet now lol. Not in to the lovie dovie scene, perhaps 20 years ago and rightfully so, I had my bedroom in that motive back then. Now I want calm and relaxation. Thre is no where else in the apartment that I can put those old pics as all orhter rooms are more modern. The bedroom is the only place that i am focusing my old world charm too. I will be removing all the nick nacks and perhaps taking an overall pic of it and see what can stay and what can go. Thanks

One more thing---I'd add wall sconces on both sides of a larger picture on one of your walls. They also add to the ambiance.

I think it is unique and your use of it would be a much better choice than the huge six light posted with the bedding? You mentioned you were thinking of getting a French Chandelier? If your hubby doesn't stroke? I'd be interested to see what it looks like too. Gosh, you are so lucky to be able to hit the French flea markets! You do know that some of that lighting is priced in the $600 and up range here? (Pea green with envy)

I didnt buy the Belgian Chandelier but was thinking about it. Glad I didnt buy it now. So should I use the lighting I posted then below with the glass shades? I added the drops fo crystals cuz it was missing that.

Yes I think it is lovely! I would take you up on the light offer ? But I JUST finished buying new lights where I hated the old ones. It is a beautiful example of highly sought after lighting! You should go into business selling on the side. You have great instincts! And I do check and buy from eBay. Especially imported. If you see any desk lamps that catch your eye on your French Flea Finds? Keep me in mind!!

There are dozens of French antique desk lamps a dime a dozen, they are not good sellers over here. I have to get the pic of the French Chandy I was contemplating. They are some heavy fellars. Its like 25 lbs. I am not sure my ceiling here can take that weight. There are others than are smaller tho. Let me see if I can find the pic again. Its the same open candle light type but more ornate. That one before was from Belgium. Husband loved the way I positioned the dresser at the foot of the bed. Oh, I didnt post a pic I just played with moving stuff around and removing a lot of stuff from the walls by the TV and the room in general. I dont need all the nick nacks too. I like the idea of those things scones for the walls. I will see if I can fine some of the antique wall lamps that take candles and use those perhaps instead of the one Cori suggested as I may not find that one here. But I will surely find the older ones for candles.

Mic the first four pics of the wall lights I posted the bottom left on my monitor looks orange but could be the light, they are hanging like sort of lantens right? Is that the one you like too? I found them darlking. The only thing Orange I love is the fruit :)

You are not retarded! I was just making sure I saw what I thought I saw. :-) I think your hubby will appreciate your utilizing those night stand lights you have. If, you are unhappy with them when your room is complete? Then, it's a quick fix if they don't suit you. You know! Like when you paint a room, then everything else looks like it needs a major change. ( insert innocent look here) or when you buy a new kitchen appliance, then pray the other goes out so you can change it too or feel the sudden need to at least change/update the hardware on the cabinets? Same thing happening here. Trust your instincts.

The lamp i have on the night stand now is an old french lamp I love it and painted the brass part green last week. I have another old lamp same size but different foot painted it green too, lamp shades are a bit different. i was going to get new shades for both of them to match at least shades. I kinda like the smaller night lights they have here in EU for night lights. IF you think they look good then I will just update the lamp shades itself and keep the feet of the lamps.. I have made a couple more changes but didnt take pics. I will do so tomorrow once I get my act in gear. today was a big hectic.
