Trash pull-out hack

Maybe this is old news, but here it is anyway. Maybe somebody can use it!

We have two sinks, a single bowl prep sink, and a huge double bowl clean-up sink. I bought a Rev-A-Shelf 35 qt. waste container pull-out, and love it. It fits (just barely) alongside the drain in the prep sink. But alas, it's way too tall for the double sink. This irked me no end, as I love having the pull-out on the prep sink, until I discovered that a shorter waste basket will fit right in! Lowe's has a 28 qt container that is an exact fit, only 2-1/2 inches shorter. Voila! The best part is is that the replacement container is only $3.48, which takes some of the sting out of the spendy Rev-A-Shelf unit. It's very handy, though, with a place to store a box of trash bags.

mushcreek, would you mind sharing the measurements of the trashcan that you purchased? Height, Width and length?

Wow the new trash can just clears. Lucky and well priced find at Lowes. I agree pull out trash is so convenient. Thanks for sharing.

The actual trash can is 15-1/4" tall. At the top, it is 10-3/8 wide by 14-1/2 front to back. It tapers down smaller at the bottom. The overall height in the Rev-A-Shelf pull-out is 16-1/4".

mushcreek: thanks for posting this tip! Just curious: what did you do with the two extra trash bins that came with the Rev-A-Shelf?

I'm trying to fashion a similar setup under my sink and need to get creative. The RAS 35qt pictured on the Lowes site has the bin's 14-1/2" dimension running left to right (which is better for my sink); yet yours is turned so the narrower/10-3/8" side of the bin faces forward. Does this mean the lower metal bracket/base of the RAS is adjustable? Depth will be an issue for me unless I can get DH to simplify the pipe connections underneath the sink. Thanks.

I am not sure if we have a similar set up - but I took a hack saw to the bit of plastic trash can to fit under the sink pipe. You can see the dip in the trash liner in the photo below. It all works just fine. BUT - I may go off to Lowes for the shortie as there is space behind this trash for a small can and that might just work to put extra sponges and cleaners. Thanks!

javiwa- Mine is a different model, with just one container, and then a basket behind it to hold a box of trash bags. Neither of our sinks had enough room underneath for the two-container model.

Thanks so much, mushcreek! I obviously didn't scroll throughly enough last night. I'm happy to see that the one-bin model is much less spendy than the two bin @ ~$75! (Everything's relative, right?) Odd that the same unit with a gray bin is $10 more.
