There was really nothing to regret about Starphire glass. I didn't want my doors to have a green tint, so I got Starphire glass, and it still wasn't green when I moved years later.

Thank you sjhockeyfan325-- I read on this forum somewhere that the Starphire glass could be more easily scratched than regular glass. I just was not sure if that was really true or if anyone had any experience. We were quoted $1025 for regular glass Starphire is an extra $390. DH and I really prefer the look of the Starphire and are willing to pay the extra cost (or so we think) but NOT if there is extra maintenance or we have to be more careful with it than regular glass.

Starphire is Low Iron which means there is less iron content in the glass. technically it is a little bit softer and therefore slightly more prone to thrashing but regular glass. But under normal use it will not scratch. As far as Clear Shield. I would not use it as it is an aftermarket product, I personally would only use the Showerguard product which is actually in the glass when it is manufactured and therefore a permanent product. Clear shield as well as any of the aftermarket products can and will wear off and need reapplication.

I used Starphire glass in 3 bathrooms and I'm happy with the decision. To me there was no other choice, specially if you spent money on pricy tiles/designs, some of which included white tiles.

Thank you. It seems that the glass company only offers "Clear Shield" not Showerguard. The cost of the Clear Shield comes with a 10 year warranty and is $130 so not exactly a deal breaker, but would prefer something that is baked into the glass. I have read other posts about RainX but applying something every 6 months sounds like a PITA.

Just called the glass company and it seems like they do carry Showerguard glass BUT they only have it the clear (greenish tint) not the Starphire!

Find another glass company, if they can get the regular glass with SG they have to be able to to get the Optiwhite (SG on Starphire is called this).

Called another company and they want $1750 for SG and need to make calls regarding pricing for SG Optiwhite. That is $610 more than my original place wanted for regular glass. I do not want to spend $2000 for shower doors, so I think SG Optiwhite is not an option.

We have Starphire glass with Clear Shield in our guest bathroom (other bathrooms have tubs with shower curtains). The glass place we used only offered Clear Shield. Apparently, at least, according to them, they had stopped using SG because they'd had problems with it. It's been 7+ years since we did the bathroom, so I don't remember anything more specific re: this.

Shower is only used a couple times a year at most (for a few days-a week when my parents visit), although we did use it for a few months period of time while reno'ing our other two bathrooms. We/my parents, squeegee the glass after using the shower.

FWIW, glass still looks new.

I have the clear and squeegee the glass after each use. We have hard water. I like it!

cplover, I am telling you and I have no dog in this hunt. The aftermarket products are nowhere near the same quality!!

I understand millworkman and I appreciate it. But the cost of the optiwhite would be more than $600 than regular starphire glass. I am not sure if I can justify the cost.

So here are my quotes from my glass place: Clear glass w.o coatings $1140; Starphire Glass w/o coating $1530 and Showerguard clear glass $1425. But they do not offer Showerguard glass in ultrawhite/starphire. Even if they did it would probably be more than I want to spend. What to do, what to do??? They do offer adding Clear Shield to the glass w/o coatings for $130. I know I could call another company, but the other 2 companies both came back around $1400 for just plain glass-- so I am guess this is the best pricing I can find. HELP! I have analysis paralysis, I almost ready to opt for a shower curtain!

We have the Starphire glass with Enduro Shield coating for over a year now with daily use. Still looks like new. The Enduro Shield has a 10-year warranty.

I have starphire in master shower, used 1-2x daily, with no coatings, very high salt content well water and it still looks fantastic a year later. That said, have one panel and a door that we squeegee after every use.

Our old shower glass had water spots we could not get off, even though we used a squeegee on it.

Get a good quality squeegee so it does not scratch your glass. Our original glass had permanent squeegee lines because it was a cheap one.

So I contacted yet another local glass company for a quote for showerguard clear and low iron glass. I received an email back today and my contact person said he is having trouble getting a quote on the showerguard glass because several of his suppliers are no longer carrying the Showerguard glass due to quality issues. EEK! What does that mean?!?!

I can look into it for you tomorrow but nothing I have heard anything about.

So new quotes arrived today from the above glass company that was finally able to track down a Showerguard supplier. Option 1 - Modern slider w/o track. Option 2 - Frameless glass with top header only and glass to glass hinges for door. Option 3 - Same as Option 2 but without the header. Here are the prices for Shower Guard Regular Clear & Low Iron. Option 1 - $2150/$2875; Option 2 - $2275/2975 & Option 3 - $2375/$3075. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!

What is the size of the unit? Where are you located (if you feel more comfortable email me thru here).

Thank you for your help millworkman. I am in the suburbs of Chicago. The shower is the 36x48. The area of the doors is about 48x80. Due to a vanity next to the shower, there needs to be a fixed panel of about 20" and the door (sliding or hinged to the fixed panel) of about 27". The shower base if it matters is enamel coated cast iron Kohler Purist and the walls are 12x24 porcelain tile.

How did your shower turn out? Did you get straphire or endure-shield?What do you think after living with it?
