Hi ker, a few pictures of your kitchen and adjacent spaces would help.

Knowing ceiling height helps too. You can get away with more movement in a larger room with higher ceilings IMO.

Probably not as long as you use light backsplash. Subway tile to pick up light color of granite...white or beige with same color grout.

Or you could forego a backsplash and paint a very light color.

For a more traditional space this might work however since you mentioned an open plan, I'm assuming it's not uber traditional. I'd probably veer towards something with less movement to keep it feeling more up to date like a honed Calcutta marble or a quartzite.

Ceiling is vaulted up to about 13'.

Trying to stay somewhat contemporary, but finding it very difficult to select granite. Want to stay away from anything with a lot of gray and definitely no marble.

The granite is named Neptuno Bordeaux Supreme.

You could do Cambria quartz in either Ella or Torquay both less movement and would look great with walnut.

We have had Cambria Bellingham for 9 months now. I love it!! Easy to clean. No worries with spills. Red Kool Aid sat on the counter overnite. Wiped right up!!

Thanks ker9 the reason I asked is that we recently put typhoon bordeaux in our new master bath, our cabinets are mid-tone wood, and we love the effect. Granite looks similar to your sample pic. I'll post pics later when I am home. I assume you have seen the entire slab that would be used? After we chose our granite we had second and third and fourth thoughts about it, kept visiting it at the granite yard and wondering if we'd made a mistake. But once installed we fell in love.

I really like the granite you have there, and the cabinets as well. Just keep the backsplash a solid, light color and I think it will be stunning.

What did you decide? Any pictures?

I think we are going with the green one named Jurassic Green - it's a very scary decision! It has a lot of green in it but it doesn't come out well in the photo. Comments welcomed!

I very recently had my kitchen redone and went with "typhoon green" granite. It looks amazing with soft turquoise accessories. I am glad I went with a granite that was a little left of neutral!

blue and green outside the windows complement your choice of granite -- countertops are expensive, but can be changed -- cabinets are more expensive -- if a buyer does not like your choice -- chances are another renovator can use your standard depth granite. Or donate. Habitat takes granite.

I think the Bordeaux is a beautiful piece. But, the Jurassic is also nice. At this point , I think it's all about personal preference.

I would go with a medium/noche tumbled travertine set on point with same color grout as travertine. Definitely not white tile!! To tie it all together you could add small decos every couple of feet that are one of the colors of the granite. I've done it a couple of times in our custom home and it turns out beautifully.

Why not use the same slab as your backsplash? No grout is so much easier to wipe down.

The slab and wood samples from 3/28/16 are gorgeous together! We have similar cabinets and Costa Smerelda granite and blue/green glass tile backsplash. We love it and get tons of complements.

I would go with something plain and simple. My go to is subway tile!!

We went with a subway tile for our backsplash to coordinate with our granite. They come in a variety of colors and sizes now. I would not use stark white. Take a piece of your granite with you when you go select your tile.

I would bring home different samples to see how they look in your room different times of the day.

You definitely have green in countertop. Make sure tile has greenish undertone, not yellow or red.
