I prefer the color on the right hand side of the wall.

If the right color is Dover it seems like a nice warm neutral to go with the blue cabinets. Try to keep everything really plain/neutral to let the blue cabinetry and fabulous butcher block do all the work as the center of attention.

Oh Amy, I remember your post now:) I had to look up "car siding" - began to think spell check had done it again but I see it is a wood tongue and grove like beadboard but with wider planks - which sounds awesome.

I have a creamy, slightly beige color on my walls and very white trim. I have butcher block on my island. I have a lot of blue accents and I love your pillow. I love blues, tans and creams so I like your color scheme. If possible, see if the painter can hold off on the ceiling till you get the walls done. Then you can paint samples. I've seen similar ceilings in bright white, but one of my friends has a light mint green - but her kitchen is all white. Maybe a much lighter shade of the blue in the cabinets? The painter will probably prime it white, which will give you an idea of the white, then you can try out some sample colors.

Another way to have color and light at the same time is white wainscot. Beadboard panels or batten board are both inexpensive ways to lighten up a room with white, but balanced with color or a warmer neutral color like a soft beige so it doesn't look cold.

SW Kestrel and Egret are both darker shades of white if you do not want bright white. Why not post a picture so we can see the white with the cabinets?

My wall paint is Valspar Churchill Hotel Ecru in eggshell and my trim is Diamond Vogel NuCling latex acrylic enamel in Cotton - satin finish. I think Diamond Vogel is a midwest regional paint store - very good paints. I originally had their brand Dover White - 20 years ago. I thought they had closed so when I repainted I got Valspar at Lowes - and it is good paint too. The Valspar sample jars are a little less at $3. The Dover (Diamond Vogel) was just a shade lighter than the Churchill Hotel Ecru. I wanted to go with a bit more color to help my trim stand out a little more, though some people prefer trim and walls to blend.

If I was to ever paint my kitchen cabinets, or buy painted cabinets, they would be blue:) I think you can bring your pillow colors in with decor, especially as you have some open shelving.

A couple of places you can find some of those colors in small doses are vintage china and botanical prints. I have mismatched vintage china on my kitchen soffit and here and there in other areas - it is very inexpensive. I spent an average of $5 to $7 a plate - some much lower and the platter was the most at $16. I got a great deal on some Christie Repasy canvas flower prints. I got some frames on sale at Hobby Lobby and painted them to frame some of the prints and one I had professionally framed. I thought my husband might say something, but he thinks they are pretty too. I used to worry about being too shabby chic with the decor, but I have heard no complaints, and I don't go overboard. (Pictures of bits of my house - paint colors, etc. in my idea book.)

I have been kicking around the wainscot in the dining room for two years. I am contemplating getting a nail gun first - but not sure.

You're pretty creative. I've been watching YouTube videos on painting flowers and thinking it would be fun to try. It would be a little less exhausting than painting cabinets.

Your house is very sweet and you have done a lot of patient, creative work. When someone post a dilemma about painting cabinets, I always worry if they are really up for it, but it is obvious that you are capable of the DIY stuff when possible.

Some people like darker colors than others. I am lucky my husband doesn't seem to mind what I do, but I also realize he grew up in a house with light walls and colorful bedrooms, so it is natural for him. My sister has a darker beige than I do - SW Practical Beige. It is darker than I like for me, but it works in her home and she has lots of natural light. I tend toward the light cottage look - I look at homes for sale in Nantucket and Carmel on Zillow sometimes - for inspiration, not to buy - haha. I think the batten board would lighten up the dining room and be a good compromise.

An easy wainscot can be done with the paintable textured beadboard wallpaper - that is what is in my powder room. However, it may not be the best choice if there are little kids as it can rip. I've dinged mine a few times and fixed it with spackle, just like a wall, but while it looks great it is more fragile than the real thing.

The Cotton white I use is pretty close to Valspar's base white color wise. Look for a latex acrylic enamel for strength to protect trim, and I like Zinsser 123 primer if you need to prime first. I used satin because some of my trim work is a little beaten up and the satin hides this better. A semi-gloss might be more washable with little kids.

I am jealous of your ceilings. I still have popcorn:(

The kitchen is just charming, Amy, as is the rest of the house - you made nice choices :) Sorry to hear your health is not improved, but you will find the commute to Mayo less physically taxing.
