Inherited fish pond

I inherited a fish pond when I moved to my house. I don't want it. I don't know how to take care of the fish or anything about them. I am at a loss of what I can turn this into. I am also at a loss of how to sell my fish and how much they are worth. I think most are goldfish but there are a few koi. 2 are over a foot in length, white in color. I am so lost. ANY ideas out there? Keeping the pond is not an option as I have 3 young children and would like them to be able to play in the backyard without worrying they will fall in and drown. There are two levels of the pond. The upper level is probably 6 ft deep and the lower level is close to 5 ft deep. There are probably close to 4 dozen fish total. Some are huge, some are tiny, bist most are around 6 inches or so.

Find a local or regional pond dealer or installer who sells fish - if they take them (some will, some wont) they will quarantine them and then put them in with the general stock to sell. Do you have any local koi club or fish hobby group - you can let them know you have fish to give away.

I would not mess around with trying to sell them - you're not going to get much money if any - they are wonderful large fish and have some value bc of their size... but they're not the purebred fancy type that people will spend big money on.

Also if you don't have filtration going or are otherwise caring properly for them, you don't have a lot of time esp with warmer temps on the way. The water quality can get bad fast and fish die. Do the right thing and just find them a good home ASAP with people who will love them and take good care of them. If you put it on Craigslist screen the respondents to be sure they have proper sized accommodations, same as you would if you were giving away a cat or dog. For pond people, our fish are as beloved as any other pet!

Looks like a liner pond, you can advertise on craig's list for someone who wants a pond to pay you a minimum for rocks, pump, filter and liner and have whoever comes agree to take everything or keep the rocks and use them as fill. Hold back the pump until everything is loaded.

You are going to have to get someone to bring in some dirt and pack it down as they fill up the hole.

I agree about giving away-little fish/small price for your bigger fish. Look on craig's list and see what they are going for.

Just wanted you all to know I found a family who have an amazing set up for their fish. The man definitely treats his fish like family. He said he hand feeds them and talks to them. He showed me his set up and everything. He is coming to get my fish today and he said he will quarantine them for 2 months in a separate pond before he adds them to his big pond. He knows his stuff and he treasures his fish. He's paying a small price for the big rocks and fish so I think it's a win win for both of us. They will have a new home where someone cares for them and loves them. He is also going to make sure our liner is set up to no longer hold water so we don't have a mosquito problem or anything. Thanks for the advice!

If you put them for free on CL, there's a chance they will become feeder fish.
