The problem with Jacuzzis and why many people are removing them is that they don't get used often and the water that remains in the pipes gets moldy/slimy. Next time someone decides to use the jacuzzi, all that black gunk comes out in the jets. Pretty gross and you then have to clean the jacuzzi tub before you can actually take a bath.

We never used ours enough and hated having to clean the gunk the few times we did want to use it. I removed our jacuzzi and replaced it with a free standing soaking tub ... which we also never use ... but it looks so much prettier and won't need to be cleaned the day that I do decide to take a bath!

We did the exact same thing as chispa! Our new, lovely free-standing soaker is certainly pretty and has been in place since August. Only the dog has ever bathed in it!

Hey Guys, thanks for the reply. Its funny, my upstairs Jacuzzi was not used for over a year, now I am using it a lot, thanks to back issues and rotator cuff pains. So we have times that we use it heavily, then periods we don't at all. I definitely want a nice soaker, question is Jacuzzi, air, or both. From a sanitation point of view though, I am hearing air seems to be superior. I guess I'm curious about the therapeutic part.

I have never tried air. We have a 5' jacuzzi tub in our master bath. It was a good selling point for me when we bought the house 6.5 years ago. I used it at least once every 2 weeks. I wish it were bigger so DH and I could relax together comfortably. When we remodel our master bath, I plan to definitely keep or replace it with a new one. Love soaking in the jets!

I've used our Bain Ultra Air twice in its 2 year life. It replaced a 20-year old Kohler whirlpool that did have occasional black gunk. If you need jets, the whirlpool slightly bests the air tub in directed jet power, but the air jets, and its power adjustability are good enough for me.
