I am having such problems growing orchids in Florida. I never realized how much easier it was to grow in freezing NY.

Growing outside my plants are hit with all sorts of bugs, wind storms, downpours and fungal problems. In NY, they grew indoors all winter and were clean and problem free, most times.

Florida, I'm tearing my hair out!

Omg... Jane, the angreacum!!! Poor baby if you need help i can adopt some of them specially the ang. ....lol..but i know you feeling i used to find mines on the concrete floor and the ceramic base broken so now they are well protected.

Yenika, you are so funny. You understand what it feels like to find this in the morning. This is just one area. Even the plants in the lanai and hanging from trees were on the ground.

I had so many broken pots, most just got stuck in baskets until I could buy more.

The Angracum came through it without any damage. It is a monster and is in a wood basket so it did fine.

It was like a hurricane outside. But they don't warn you here. The weather report just says 'windy conditions today.'

Jane, you have some very nice plants... how about giving them a proper home, something that would would reduce your maintenance (after all is setup of course)?

this shadehouse is only 12x18ft and has an overhead timer controlled misting system, with fertilizer injector for feeding etc... excellent for any mounted orchid and especially suited of vandaceous plant...?

Nice shade house Ben. Do you heat it?

You have my deepest sympathy this year has been incredibly windy having more problems with squirrels they use the hanging plants as a gymnasium.

Had an incredible display of epiphyllums after the cool down in Jan but one of the little beasts dug it up!! Looks like I'm going to save it but of course it has to start all over Winds completely stripped the red poinsettias .Amazingly they leafed out again even flowered

All my orchids . are now out in the yard either on trees or hanging. All are doing fair Two of the phals growing on cork are starting to spike those on the trees look a bit peaked but are hanging on Jury is still out on the strap vanda I finally got brave enough to do the surgery. Time will tell . Two of the teretes are passing the 4th year on the palms well over 10 feet tall now !! The straps i the group are slower but look good but so far flowering has been disappointing.

My shadehouse is in need of serious repair which is not going to happen so all plants are now out in the "wilderness" lol Time for some tough love lol

Due to the incredibly warm Dec. I finally got a tomato but I have vines 8 feet tall!! lol Gee, and my plan was to corner the tomato market this year. maybe next year?? gary

I love fragrant orchids. That one has a very pretty bloom.

I am sorry for all your broken pots, Jane. But I am sure the plants will be OK in the long run. I had problems with turned over pot too, mostly by squirrels that are a real pest here and not by high winds though.

Admittedly they do not look very attractive but keep pots from tumbling.

The above trays they throw out at the big box stores after they`ve sold the plants that came in them. The one below you have to ask growers for nicely and they might give you one.

Other than that I like to put rocks in the bottom of pots to keep them from falling over. But certainly in a hurricane like situation non of this would help.

Thank goodness we do not have any cute Strillels here. As for "outside" anywhere in the world, I suspect you need a shade-house or similar for protection against the elements.
