Jack & Jill Bath Remodel - Layout Help Please

The attached picture is the layout of the bath between 2 bedrooms. The shower enclosure is leaking and we figured the 1970s look might as well go, too. My question is - it's the only tub in the house, so I can't delete it. But we'd like to consolidate the tub/shower and create storage. Possibilities - move the toilet to the shower area and create a wall of storage opposite the vanity. Or create a shower/tub where the shower is now, but I don't think that will work because the vanity is so close? Any suggestions are appreciated. Karen

Can you please post a broader floor plan that shows how two bedrooms relate to the bath and the surrounding rooms?

Do you feel the need for a second sink in the room, or does one suffice for your needs? I like your idea of tucking the toilet into the space where the shower is; it seems very exposed as it is now. I hope you repost a better floor plan, as it's hard to see where the bedroom accesses are.

Oops, I just looked closer and see the two bedroom doors.

Thank you for replying. This is a broader outline of the upstairs. It's a Colonial.

I decided to use your dimensions on graph paper to see how the space looks. If I have it correct, I have a couple of ideas. The first drawing is how your space looks now. Perhaps someone else can come up with other solutions.

2nd drawing and alternative below. Keep everything where it is. Remove shower and extend vanity and install two sinks.

3rd drawing. Remove Jack and Jill feature and put entry from hallway. Add linen cab across from toilet (allow 30 inch clearance in front of toilet). Additional storage next to toilet?. Rotate tub 90 degrees.

If it is within the scope of your project to move doors, etc. then I like localeater's plan of making a separate vanity area with doors opening to both bedrooms and a separate area with a door for the toilet and shower/tub. I also like karenseb's third drawing with the tub turned 90 degrees and added closet space, which would work with either having a single entrance from the hall or having entrances from the bathroom at the other end by a shared vanity.

Thank you so much for the comments - I had an unexpected family emergency and put this on the backburner - but I appreciate the comments and ideas. I never thought of deleting the jack and jill feature - which would open up the space quite a bit. I'm not sure if that is a selling feature, or whether it would make a difference. I like the openness of localeater's plan and karenseb's 2nd plan. Again - thank you so much for the ideas.
