Chair Placement Help

last modified: 13 years ago
The walls have been freshly painted. We haven't gotten any of the artwork back on the walls yet as we wanted to settle the furniture back in the room. We had some small Danish style recliners that needed to be replaced. The new recliners are slightly bigger and have a different 'geometry' when reclined. (One needs to check ALL of the space the chair needs.) I assumed the new chairs would fit back in that space. Instead it feels like the chairs are in the middle of the room! Well not quite but, they need to be about a foot from the wall. The room is awkward in that it has a lot of low windows and a large arched opening. So layout wise the chairs need to stay where they are.

Any suggestions? Once the pictures are back on the wall will that help fill the gap? I thought of a narrow shelf just above the chairs to fill that void but not interfere with the reclining. Everything in the pictures is our temporary camp other than the chairs. Would it be better to have the chairs square to the wall or at angles?
