Before and After Dining Room

Still deciding about this room for accessories (i.e. centerpiece, should i put chair pads on the chairs) and not sure if the birdcage lighting fixture is right. This room is my problem child! Ideas and suggestions welcome!

If you're asking about the first room pictured, I think an area rug with more pattern in it would give some life to the room. Also, as you see in the second pic, there's a tall potted plant in the corner? It's a little too full for the room in the first pic, but a potted palm would look good.

Thanks for your suggestions. I was thinking about those things, too. I could use the seagrass rug in another room that needs it and get a patterned rug. Do you suggest a large round one? And, I agree something needs to be in the corner. I am just not a fan of potted plants. Perhaps some time of corner cabinet?? What do you think?

Your room is beautiful! I love the dining set, the lamp, the painting! I think you might be happy with some pattern in the room--could you find a beautiful patterned rug--maybe in some colours from the painting? here's a couple examples:
ps--i love the elegant simplicity of the room.

I love your new room! The wall art is great. If you want a potted plant, a large peace lily should work because they are not too tall and they are very easy to grow. I agree that an area rug with pattern would be perfect. I would wait to get chair cushions until you have your rug so you can pull a color from it. I would incorporate colors from your art in the rug; but from the photograph I cannot tell if it is all neutral or has a color in it. You are off to a great start!

Thanks so much everyone for your suggestions! I love them!!

You could easily pull off a square or round rug, whatever you prefer. I like the console idea, but if your set on a cabinet, then go for it. Wait until you get your rug and other pieces before you change your lighting, it may still work.

The first thing I would change would be the birdcage lighting!I would choose one of the three chandeliers I attached. Also, I would change the rug with a round one.Hope I've been of some help.Good luck!

I would like to see the final result when you make up your mind.I wonder what changes you will make.

I love the chandeliers! I think I will incorporate everyone's ideas and start with this: A large, round patterned rug, move the pic up just a bit and put a console underneath, and once that's done, see what the birdcage light looks like. I am thinking a round chandelier such as the pics farfalina5 posted will work better, but, we'll see. And, then I'll decide if I need some type of pads for the chairs....thanks to you all. I LOVE all your suggestions and will post an updated pic when I get done!!

love the colours and patterns--not sure about "round". My thinking is that a round rung maybe be too repetitive to the table set; and that a square one would be more complimentary.....just my thoughts....

I know what you mean. But, I went ahead and ordered the one above because I have a living room/dining room combo. The living room has the same seagrass rug as in the photo. In order to give it its own indentity (?) I thought the round would be a good idea. I am also thinking that since the living room has off white slipcover loveseats, I may do an off white tall, but slim corner cabinet to sort of bring in the color of the loveseats. Your thoughts?

Here's some examples of what I am thinking of for the corner of the dining room.

Hi Chris. Thanks for the idea, but the lighting is totally not me.

I love the gray corner cabinet with your round rug; I think it sounds beautiful--as the rest of your choices have been!!

    Thank you!!!

I love that gray corner cabinet!

I think you should swap out the sisal rug for a rug that is the same blue/gray that the artwork is.

I actually ordered the round one I posted yesterday from Bellecor. I tried to find one with some blue/gray in it, but the blues were just not the same unique blue in the painting. So, I am hoping the one above works. I got a round 8'.
