Sprouting bulbs

Newbie bulb planter here. I bought some tulip and hyacinth bulbs last fall and planted some on the ground and some in pots. The bulbs planted in the ground are starting to sprout beautifully, however, the bulbs planted in the pots sprouted waaaaay early. I planted as indicated, I covered with mulch, covered in a black plastic bag and placed inside corner of garage for the winter. I went to check on them today and my hyacinths have already bloomed and my tulips have 4-6" stems. The problem is that they are all WHITE/YELLOW!!! I'm assuming this is because they were growing in the dark. I'm so bummed about this, I took them out hoping that the sunlight might make them produce some color. I'm convinced it's too late for my hyacinths that have already bloomed but is there any hope for my tulips? Thanks in advance. Any info on how to avoid this in the future would be much appreciated.
