Any suggestions for either leaving shutters off or keeping them?

Here's an idea to give the entry more presence. Paint the door and sidelights a lighter color. Try deleting the shutters. I'd also suggest beefing up the garden in front of the house and adding more colorful plantings.

the way it is now, you barely notice the shutters, i think if you make them pop a bit they could be a nice feature.

I agree with flopsycat that the door and the sidelights should be painted one color. I think your roof is huge! And I would recommend, 2 shapely specimen trees. One smaller and narrower (15') on the far left window. Another larger, wider (multitrunk) one on the right window (20') This would help break up the roof line. Maybe consider changing the pillars - perhaps to a square column. Also, I can't see your porch, but there seems to be a dark step to the door. Bring the step out beyond the roof line and widen the walk way. I would use a grey flagstone in a random pattern.

I think the tree should be on the far right window. So I re-did the picture. Are your columns in the dirt? They should be on the porch...

Paint the garage doors the color of the roof.Paint the shutters a color that will show up. Paint fascia white to match posts. Door and sidelights should be one color.

I hope your posts are not made of wood. Wood that is in contact with the soil should not touch your house.

The posts are on the porch and they are also square. We hate the shrubs so for sure those will be removed. I really like either a yellow door or red stands out too. If I paint fascia white it won't look to stark against the brick?

In addition to repainting all the wood, adding a 12' wide gable to the porch roof (only over the front entry) would add much curb appeal.
