I hate to say it, but your man sounds like a royal pain. Just kidding (well, sort of). If you really want to stay with him, then at least you're fortunate that he has the good taste to shop at Room and Board. Can you turn the tables and insist on only one couch and 2 chairs? Why does he insist on demanding so many places to sit in one room?

In situations like this, I'd ask for some kind of explanation. "Because I think it'll look cool" is not an answer. Maybe he's trying to keep the space from looking uniform or boring? If that's the case, then there are other ways to do that without making your living room look like a furniture store. By having different pillows, different colors and textures in your space, your living room will not look boring. Maybe he wants to make sure any/all guests are accommodated. The answer to that is you'll never be able to do that, so fill the room with what fits and go from there.

Try to figure out where he's coming from. He could have a very simple reason behind his choices and is just going about it in an odd way. He should also listen to your thoughts and try to work for something that suits you both!
