First time herb gardener

I'm attempting to grow herbs (basil, cilantro, mint and dill) in containers. What do I need to fill the containers with? I have some compost that I brought in to fill my veggie garden a few years ago. I've read so much I'm at a loss, do I need to go buy potting mix, peat or what and if I need differ t things what amount per pot 50/50?

Potting soil will work fine.

I have a lot of buckets some 10qt and larger can I mix potting soil with the compost I had brought in a few years ago for my raised beds? It's loose and black. (If that matters lol).

I'm a first time herb gardener too. I'm using potting soil with Fishnure.
