Looks like your roof is brown. What is that darkest color in your brick? Looks like chocolate brown.....if so, I might do the shutter in that with a green front door, teal might even look nice.

I think the darkest color is probably a brownish gray color, similar to the roof. I like that idea - to pull in the roof color. Thanks!

Have you considered eliminating the shutters? Some are too small, others too large. I'd paint the door burgundy.

And paint the front door.

Wow! Tibbrix, that really changes the look of the house! I never would have thought to go in that direction. Do you think the dark paint would look okay with the white grilles in the windows? They're between the glass and can't be painted. Would you paint the front door the same brown?

While it's not in the budget right now to do such a large makeover (I counted 43 windows, and the white gutters would all need replacing, too), that will be what I work towards. I love the way it looks - thanks!

I would do one of Tibbrix's suggestions for trim color, I prefer the cream myself. With either though I would paint the door a light color so it pops out more. A light seafoam green or aqua would be really pretty (and trendy right now too). A very light spring or mossy green might be nice too.

Lovely house! I would definitely eliminate the shutters...too small and a distraction from the beauty of the house's other features.

What a great idea to remove the shutters! It will update the whole house. (These half round shutters turning the "wrong" way when open remind me of an old castle.)

Then pick a great color for the door, maybe blue, green, teal, or even a dark burgundy.

I also like the idea of removing the shutters come to think of it since not all your windows have them. The only problem might be if the brick underneath is now a different color depending on how old the house is. I don't mind the white trim since it ties in with the windows and yes, no point in redoing the perfectly good gutters just to change the color. I think you need a bright, strong color for the front door since its recessed. I like that moss/grass green pictured above. Pretty house!

I love the quite elegance of homes with front doors of wood, white or when it fits, black or at times some other deep color such as maroon. I know treating a front door as a vehicle for ones favorite color is a look thats been popular for years now, but sometimes I think if people aren't careful those bright "pops" of color can contribute to a garish or fun-house look. I like the idea of photoshopping to get the full impact of a color and to see if it relates well with all the elements of a home and its surroundings. Your house is lovely.

My first thought when seeing your beautiful house was to take off the shutters. I would leave everything white but would paint the door deep red, navy or black.

A green door has already been mentioned and it would be pretty. Since that area is shaded you can go a bit brighter. Farrow & ball caulk green is just the right amount. Your home looks nice without shutters but if you keep them I would do a brown so dark it looked almost black. Either way it will be beautiful!

Yes, white grills will be fine with any color trim. White grills are traditional, have been around forever with different color trim. Should not be a problem.

I'm so sorry for this bad mockup but I don't have time. I know I'm in the minority (as usual) but I like the house in its traditional way. To me the shutters in a brown so dark it looks black is nice. The trim needs warming up and slightly muted. I'm not keen on the white. Some sort of color to jive with the roof on the left as well and the green Farrow Ball door.

Beautiful home, but the shutters are not to scale. Remember that the shutters are supposed to be able to close over the window completely (if anyone were to do so, which we don't anymore). But that's the idea. So, your top, small window has shutters that would overlap. The larger widow has narrow shutters that wouldn't even come close to covering the widow.

All in all, I agree with those who say to lose the shutters. And ... yes, paint the front door in an eye-attracting color. I like the green above, or a maroon.

I agree, ditch the shutters. You've got a blank slate as far as door color goes. Paint it whatever color speaks to you.

Chiming in to agree with others. The shutters don't fit the windows properly. They are tall enough to cover the brick arch, but shutters are just supposed to cover just the windows. I would remove the shutters and definitely paint the front door a pretty color. It is a very pretty house.

No to the shutters. They're not appropriate for the home.
