Kool decking

Our pool is less than a year old and we aren't sure our PB did the kool decking correctly--he outsourced this job to two guys. I have seen kool decking before and know it's rough, but the texture on ours hurts our feet and it seems too pitted since its holding water and grows algae like crazy. We are just wondering if anyone can tell us if this looks normal or if we need to have something done. Thanks!

I have no experience with Kool Deck but from a distance it looks nice (lower photo). However your issues sound like a nightmare! Maybe they can smooth out the roughness for you? It doesn't sound like you are happy with the final result, so something must be done.

Application can vary from person to person but this looks way out side of the norm. Did the paint the decking after the coating was applied?

You can coat with an acrylic paint stain which will seal the moisture out and reduce mold and mildew. It will also assist in smoothing out some and feel more comfortable.

We just completed our pool build and also have the Kool decking but ours looks like it's been smoothed our a lot more than yours. Kind of like a "knock down" wall finish for inside the house. Not a great photo I know.
