It is true that in many cases double-flowering varieties of plants are incapable of producing fruit, but I believe ornamental pomegranate does produce fruit; the fruits are just smaller and not very good tasting.

In my personal opinion, the flowers of ornamental pomegranate are not all that much more pretty than regular pomegranate, and tasty fruit is always nice to have, so for me, I just cannot see the justification for having an ornamental pomegranate variety rather than a fruiting one.

Same thing with quince. Cherry though, I can totally understand; the blossoms of fruiting cherry do not compare to ornamental cherry.

I agree, parker. And if I'm going to irrigate something (in Los Angeles) I really want it to produce fruit.

I will call the nursery and see if they can do a swap for a fruiting variety. The plant is in better shape than when I bought it.

you still have this tree ? I am from Dallas and looking for getting some beautiful double flower ornamental pomegranate. these come from dark red, aprocot, pink, peach, white colors. Please let me know where i can get these grafts/air layers ?
