no. you want it high over your head to rain on you. its very different than a regular shower head. our 96" ceiling has a rain head on a 8" stem which is great.

make sure you are planning a second 'normal' shower head, hand held/mounted on a bar, or you won't be able to shower without getting your head soaked too.

I like ceiling mounted in a 8’ ceiling other than that as high as needed for the tallest person using it i alsolike to have a stem that comes out further than 8"

for clarity...my 8" stem is down from the ceiling, not out from the wall. and i agree, a rain head too close to the wall is silly you cannot get under it.

You should be mindful of opposing considerations when you decide on a rain head height: on the one hand, as noted above, the higher a rain head is the greater the rain effect. On the other hand, the further it is from your head, the colder the water would be when reaching you (this is surprisingly noticeable). I suggest keeping the rain head about 14"-18" over your head.
