Had this posted on the basement portion, but no responses. Would really appreciate some help.

We are repainting, redoing, relighting, etc most of the house as we are planning to sell soon. Large center hallway colonial patterned after historical Virginia houses.

Our basement is about 1200 SF and includes a bedroom and full bath. Most of the area is centered on a large fireplace with hearth (about 10 feet wide). The bedroom and the open area have small windows (the usual look with half of the basement height below ground and half above ground). There is s tile (medium splotchy taupe) area that leads from the stairs to the door to a workshop area that is unfinished. We used tile as it was a high traffic area.

The bathroom is near the door to the workshop so the tile flows into it, as well. The bedroom and the open area are carpeted with tan/taupe plush carpet that is in very good shape with no wear showing (we are keeping it).

The basement was last painted about 17 years ago when we moved in ...for the most part it was the play area for kids ...pool, pingpong and game table with large sitting area for tv and music.

At the time, we were money starved so we bought 10 gallons of miss-mixed paint from a local big box store for $1/gallon and painted :-) Came out a pleasant sort of light taupe.
We have evaluated Edgecomb Gray as being a bit too gray, given the carpet color. What are some Ben Moore colors that might bridge the taupie carpet and modernize a bit ?
We do want to stay light since it is a basement with limited windows.
