Help I threw up in my living room!

I recently painted the living room(it's more on the narrow and long side) the photo quality is not great, I apologize in advance but I feel like it doesn't flow. I would appreciate any ideas, I still have to add wall decor just not feeling it. I was thinking of spray painting the coffee table gold, the TV stand will be white instead of the black one currently there, any ideas please?

I recently bought this rug from HD. I love it. Has ivory beige colors and think it would look very nice with your sofa. Plus if it doesn't work you can return to store. Excellent quality for the price, comes in lots of sizes

I just looked these up and they are all nice selections, I am going to swing by there this afternoon to see if I can find them here at my local store!

I like your inspiration photos and tried to click like, but couldn't for some reason. Your inspiration photos were similar to what I was thinking for the short wall. The inspiration photos have no competing undertones that immediately jump out at me. What I do see is balance, symmetry, proportion and soft neutrals. It feels cozy and workable. Nice!

The rug is large, but plain, but works in the space. If you add a patterned rug, that is where your eye will go. I like many of Lisa's suggestions and helps.

Since you are keeping your sofa and it's new, then you may have to repaint to go with it. I don't see how the walls will still work with it. Or, if you like the wall colour more and don't want to repaint, then the furniture has to go.

Please, get some advice in person asap! Paying a designer 50 bucks or 100 bucks for a brief consult (whatever the going rate is) could save you a lot of stress and time, money and headaches. The colour and lighting are crucial to get the look and feel you want for that room. They will help you get there much quicker.

The idea of diy is great if you have a background or training, but colour behaves differently in different light. I think this is an area that some professional guidance in person will really help. Please, be patient! Gee, it seems like with each suggestion you are running off to buy. Slow and steady is your key. I rest my case.

My training in terms of colour and line is as a florist, but I have a natural ability to work with it also to a large degree. (I won colouring contests and costume contests, parade/float-decorating contests and pumpkin-carving contests up the wazoo as a kid. I'm naturally creative, but know and admit my limitations). Good luck with your room. I'm fresh out of ideas.

Sometimes it is just a matter of trial and error, if it doesn't cost anything. Don't be afraid to buy and try. You can take things back, I have confidence that you will know the right thing when it is in your room. And keeping something for a day or 2 in all lightings helps also. Hang in there, you'll get it right.

You mentioned getting a new TV console. I wonder if your small chairs might look nice flanking the new TV console and then you could get a single new larger chair for the room? I think the size of your current chairs would be nice if they were placed straight and closely flanking a piece of furniture.

I have decided on this rug...I really like the pattern

I know my husband wasn't fond of it, but I love and will work with this to

make it work, I will see how the sofa goes with it and acessorize from there.

I'm so glad you went with that rug. It's my favourite of the ones you posted. If you're changing the tv stand, what about this one from Pier One?

That's very nice. I had thought about white/off white but then some suggested not getting white( I wasn't sure if it was because it would throw everything off with that I already had) I was thinking of a coffee table like this?

Your inspiration pics suggest you'd like something more tone on tone, light and shades of cream and white. So I think this TV stand would be perfect. And it's gorgeous!
    It is very nice!

It wouldn't take much space either

Good Morning! I have narrowed it down to these two coffee tables for my living room considering the chairs I have and the sofa which do you guys think would go best? Advice appreciated in advance!

    here are the two tables

I can't see the tables. Did they post? Houzz is being weird with pictures I think.

    here they are

    2nd one

I like that one best too Susan!

Oh, I don't know, both are nice!

Wait, I forgot about the side table which is so similar to the 1st coffee table. With that in mind, I like the second one best too.

For me the first thing I notice is that the more formal-looking sitting area is farther into the room, which doesn't make logical sense to me. Also, the fan/light is dated and distracting. If you could change out even just the glass shade parts it would make a huge difference, but a more modern fixture would go a long way. Other than that, you could do a lot with a few accents that bring in some other colors or textures, while still maintaining the grey and yellow, or even go for some bolder variations of the greys and yellows to pop the scheme. Obviously I don't know you, but there isn't anything in the room that looks personal, so in my opinion, adding things that you really love and speak to who you are will make you happier and probably look better in the long run than trying to "design" it. Just my two cents :)

Thanks oceankehl for your feedback, I have not finished the room it's not complete. I have recently moved the chair closer to the windows one on each side with the round accent table in the middle. i love the idea of the variations of the gray. I need to add our pictures and some wall decor that I have not gotten to yet :) This is what I had in mind instead of the fan since it had been brought up recently, I too agree it has to go.

would someone be kind enough to show me what the rug that has gray on it in my previous pictures above look like with the second coffee table I posted? Also any suggestions on a semi flush light?

CAn you post another picture of the room without the current coffee table the way you have it set up now?

I'll put in the gray and ivory rug and a ceiling light and coffee table.

Thanks Susan! I will post tonight after work. This is a photo prior to furniture this could be a clean slate. I thought about returning the two chairs and looking for a wingback type chairs instead?

I think the coffee table and rug looks good. If you can return chairs that would be great. Maybe something bigger, You could do wingbacks, but a regular accent chair would do fine also.

This is what I have in your space now

    http://www.pier1.com/Frankie-Suzani-Armchair---Gold/2601798,default,pd.html?cgid=chairs#nav=top&start=1

I love the fabric on this one but not sure if it will go with sofa.

    http://www.pier1.com/Liliana-Armchair---Peacock-Golden/2801117,default,pd.html?cgid=chairs#nav=top&start=1

Take your sofa cushion into store and match some fabrics. All are on sale now.

Even a navy fabric would look good with beige and gray with yellow accents.

I would like to see some sparkling elements added. Metal, ceramic or glass objects (art, vases, plant stands, etc) would provide little highlights to catch the light and combat how "flat" everything feels.

That's awesome that you can return the chairs and replace them with bigger chairs!

    Do you have 10' ceilings?

The rug Hubby made you send back was the appropriate size (and was also awesome).

I am getting it back grovel lol! I love too and the table you added is nice! Susan they are 10 I believe.

If you are considering replacing fan, this might be very nice in room. Good size for area and will add some sparkle and reflect light.

How about some pattern to liven it up?

You're getting the original rug back? Yippee!

I would take a sofa cushion in to Pier 1 and compare chairs. I know they have fabric swatches if the chair is not in stock. Be sure to take them outside and in front of windows and in their lighting, to see how they look in all areas of light. You can even take them to their lamp area to see how they look together in lamp light. I would worry too much about the rug, It is neutral enough that it will go with all of the chairs.

Yes! Excited! I was able to talk him into it lol. That chandelier is nice Susan!
Good suggestion, I have one close to me that I could swing by and view option.
