Cannot find STPP on Amazon!!!

last modified: 10 years ago

I have maybe 2 scoops left of STPP, that I bought on Amazon months ago. I went to re-order...and it is now, nowhere to be found!

Has Amazon stopped selling STPP? I will be lost without it. I add it to my Classic Tide powder, Cascade dw powder and even to Miele Ultra White!

**Dafna General Store on Amazon says STPP not available!!! :-O OMG!! Have our Phosphates been finally removed from us???

***I ordered 2 lbs. of food grade STPP. It only talks about food preparation, but the review said it was great for laundry and dishwasher needs. I fear our STPP days are numbered!!! :(

Me too! I just looked yesterday and couldn't find it! Bring back STPP....

I'll try to contact Dafna tomorrow.

Larsi only difference in the food grade is they are careful not to get any contaminates in it..so it will be fine..but very expensive .I ordered a boat load of this stuff recently and had no problems.

    Wonder what's up.

OMG, it was available last week but I didn't buy as I had enough to last a couple of months...carp!

Wow. Looks like a couple pounds of the food grade is what the dafna price was for 10. Well...now you can say the Miele only gets food grade additives haah

Can't even tell you haw glad I am that I ordered mine and received it...I usually order a 20# bag..but for some reason I ordered 4 of them..maybe it was a feeling.

Maybe they ran out or shipment is late..is the chemistry store still selling it?

It seems to be. It is "tech grade," whatever that means...

It could be that the Dafna General Store didn't renew their contract with Amazon..has anyone gone to the Dafna site to see if their selling it there?

I think tech grade means 90% or less pure

Tech grade is what we buy fro dafna..food grade is under more strict packaging guidelines since its added in foods, toothpaste ect.

I wouldn't think the gov put a stop to selling it since the chemical store still sells it.

I can't even begin to tell you how upset I would be if it was no longer sold..this is my #1 cannot live without laundry product...I would sooner lose my beloved Tide with Bleach powder than STPP. I'll call Dafna in the morning and try to find out what's going on. I'll be back I need to find my shot glass.

I just got a shipment in yesterday from Dafna on Amazon. I just checked and saw it was unavaible. Hopefully they are just out of stock for now. I do wish now that I had bought more than 10 lbs.

I went to the Dafna website. It would not allow me to add STPP to my cart for shopping!!!! OH NO!!!

I got two lbs. of food grade Stpp for about $20 I think. Expensive, but I do not need to use a lot in both Miele Dishwashers and washing machine.

I do not think I can live without STPP!!

I will definitely be using mine sparingly until I see it is being sold again on Amazon. I guess my whites and the dirtiest of clothes will only get the STPP treatment for now.

I just went into my Amazon purchase history and was able to "add to cart" my STPP from Pro Supply Outlet.

Maybe Dafna is having issues. I've always used Pro Supply Outlet.

When I do a search for STPP it pulls up Dafna, Savogran, Pronto Foods, Sunnyside Corp.

I seen also George that Pro Supply is still selling it...I think it is something going on with Dafna..maybe they haven't got the shipment in or maybe they are in the process of changing prices..who knows..maybe we can find out tomorrow.

I'm curious why Amazon/Dafna is apparently the only source some will consider. I've been using it for more than 8 years and have never bought from there.

    last modified: 10 years ago

Dafna has the best price. 20 pounds for 40 dollars. That amount is just an example, it comes in different sizes, but I've found Dafna to always be cheaper than anyone else

I have heard about someone that buys STPP from. Wausau Chemical

I have no idea where its at other than the US. I also don't know if its strickly a walk in or if it can be ordered and delivered.

I did a search on Amazon * items sold by Dafna General Store on Amazon* it isn't just STPP, appears its all the Dafna products that say currently unavailable....so my guess would be that either Dafna didn't renew contract with Amazon or Dafna went out of business. They open at 9 AM and you can bet I'm calling them. If its just a matter of no longer selling on Amazon, Dafna does do their own online sales.

On a somewhat similar note: Somat dishwasher detergent, from the basic powder to the 12 Gold version, is now all phosphate free. So for those who like Somat with 33% phosphate already in it - 2016 will be the last year it will be on sale here.

I called Dafna and got a voice message..it said **We are not shipping this week, we are closed for invatory..we will get back with you next week.

So this must be what's going on

@ Whirlpool_trainee......OH NO, not Germany too with this non-sense Phosphate free sh*t too!! Ridiculous. Compared to agriculture, detergents basically did nothing to add to lake algae bloom. Makes me so mad!!

@ George...Yes, you are right, your Pro Supply place does have STPP on Amazon. When I did my search, I only search for "Prime", and your supplier charges shipping, this is why it did not come up in my search results. Thanks!

@ MamaP.....PLEASE let me know if you hear back from Dafna, and if it really is just an "inventory" thing! :)

If anyone lives in or near Wausau WI you can just walk into Wausau Chemical and buy STPP right off the shelf.

Whirlpool, thank you for that reminder, I did hear that this was going to happen. I need to order the Somat 10 powder, I ordered a bag before but didn't have excellent results with it..but once I started turning my dial around for a longer wash cycle the Somat did wonderful. I think I paid around 20 dollars a bag the last time, so I think i'll try to order a bag each month to stock up.

Sorry it was Somat Classic powder not the Somat 10..still had phosphates though

    @ Cheryl and Adam

Yes, 2016 is the last year of phosphated dishwasher detergent in Europe. The new formulas will be sold as of this month, so who knows how long the phosphated versions will be on our shelves. The new boxes say "phosphate free / + Citric Acid".

    :(

Ohh no time to waste..Thank you Alex

I did have to replenish my stock of STPP and did so last night on Amazon with no problem. Of course it was from Pro Supply Outlet.

    larsi_gw thanked georgect

Yikes, Pro Supply Outlet wants double what I paid for 10 lb of the STPP on Amazon through Dafna.

If you all can wait till next week you can order it from Dafna

Oh I can wait. I actually won't need any for a long time. I was just looking at the other sites.

Well not sure I can wait...I took all of mine to my cousins house for a short storage till I make some room...this morning she told me her hubs moved it to the basement..her basement gets damp which is why she runs a dehumidifier..I'm not going to be happy if it got wet...I actually sold one bag to her and two bags to her friends each bag 40 bucks just like I paid so I'm only left with one which another one of her friends wants..if Dafna opens back up and I'm sure it will I will go ahead and sell it and order more. I was going to pick my bag up from Mel's house as I'm running low here but I'll wait. I have some premixed with detergent, but wanted to make a veriety of premixed for Mami. Mami hasn't used STPP and I thought to send her different brands mixed at a 33% ratio. I do have some ready to mail but can fit more in the box and didn't want to wait another week..so some will be with and some without stpp..life in the laundry room will never be the same for Mami after the stpp LOL.

I am ridiculously excited about trying everything !!!! I'm sure once I try stpp I'll have to have it as a regular item! I am so busy so I'm slow getting to everything but I finally got to use the Tide w touch of Downy Clean Breeze powder. It is very different from the liquid, very strong scent in the box but not strong out of the wash/ dryer. It leaves a light fresh scent on the clothes where as the liquid tends to leave a heavier scent, but there's a difference in the scent, can't put my finger on it, but I think I like it better. Anyway, I'll be sending the Tide expert ( Larsi)a bag so I can hear what he thinks of it, plus the amazing"attention to detail" Alex, and of course you, MP! I haven't forgotten , just takes me forever to finally get to do things cause I've always got so much going on !

Mami, I know what you mean about being busy, and often when I do get out the post office is closed, or I'm running a kid to the doctor and not thinking about the post office.

I did find a medium sized box of Tide with Downy Clean Breeze in my cubbord a few weeks ago, opened and used it..LOVE IT.. so when I seen the same thing on clearance this past week I grabbed 3-----80 load boxes. WHY, why would anyone buy this much of the same product..well, I notice things are much less wrinkled using it, and have a softer, smoother feel. tee shirts expecially appear more conditioned, they feel nicer. Sheets seem to iron easier. No its not like liquid Fabric Softener, it doesn't make things feel coated, but it does make things feel better than a detergent without Downy in it.

The scent: clean, crisp, extremely herbal. With all the complaints of Tide products smelling so sweet I can't understand why this one is not used and liked more. There is also Clean Breeze without Downy. Tide is a TOL detergent, but I've heard many not wanting to use it because of the candy like scent, not so with the clean Breeze.

Its no surprise to some of you that the original Clean Breeze scent was my favorate, not the original scent. The new CB is a bit different today but still a great scent. I highly recommend for those of you that like the crisp, clean, herbal scent try this, doubtful you will find a more herbally detergent.

Yes, I like this stuff, it cleans great as you'd expect from Tide..and the scent.. Amazing.

Dafna sells on EBay. I bought 20 lbs of STPP last year. I also was monitoring Amazon and EBay when it stopped being available. Other sellers charge quite a bit more. It is available again YAY on both Amazon and EBay for those wondering.

I have studied detergent formularies extensively and always look up the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for old laundry and dishwashing detergents. Premium or Industrial powdered laundry detergent has on average 20-30% phosphorus by weight, consumer strength about 10-15%. Premium dishwashing powder detergent comes either chlorinated w/ phosphorus or enzyme based w/ phosphorus. (Bleach kills enzymes so you'll never see any formulas with both together). Phosphate content is 11% for industrial strength Cascade or 8% for consumer strength.

Biz powdered detergent has a higher percentage of the main ingredient sodium percarbonate in comparison to Oxiclean. Biz is an enzyme based detergent, which means it works best in warm, not hot water (hot water destroys the enzymes). Enzymes need time to eat and break down protein based stains which is why heavily soiled items should be soaked overnight/24 hours to be the most effective. I use 1/2 a cup of Biz in my HE top load washer with 1 TBS sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP from Dafna General) and soak my whites overnight and wash the next day. I never use bleach because it is toxic and it breaks down clothing fibers over time.

For dish detergent I use Cascade Platinum packs with 1 tsp STPP in the detergent section, and 1 tsp Citric Acid or LemiShine plus 1/2 tsp approx. of Dawn Ultra original blue dish soap in the pre-rinse compartment. Similarly, I also have used Up and Up powder detergent, Lemishine, and STPP altogether in the detergent compartment with just a squirt of Dawn as the pre-rinse. I have found that the Up and Up brand works exactly the same as Cascade for me when I add the citric acid and STPP along with it.

@Jackie Hughes, why on earth would you use a liquid hand dishwashing detergent in a dish washer? All that stuff sounds like overkill.

    What is STPP?

    Sodium TriPolyPhosphate

1/2 tsp of dawn isn't much, sounds like it would work to me. I think I might try that combo on my dishes. I have a prewash cup on my DW and I don't know how to manage the system with pods. I don't want to use 2 pods per load, one in the main and one in the prewash. This just might be the ticket. I have STPP, citiric acid, and dawn.

18 Month Old Thread Bump. I feel like I want to start getting back into powder vs. tabs, even though in my informal testing, tabs were far superior in cleaning that the powder that can is on the shelves..

Has anything changed for those using powder on what you use. Off to scour the shelves and see what is out there...

Heh . If I cut cut my tabs and not make a god darn gooey mess, I would just do that

WATER - which is not universal, plays a huge role in how one experience is with any product, in any appliance, or even when washing the car ;-)

I have posted my thoughts . I'm not a chemist nor do I think I have more brains than the billions of dollars of R&D that these big companies are. Platinum IMO is strong enough, for even months old caked on oil on a hood filter , so I can't even see how a dash of this, a sprinkle of that , a drizzle of that all in ONE cleaning load is worthwhile. Or even the comment of dish liquid - super suds city in a dishwater.

I probably do a citric straight wash maybe twice a year. Machine doesn't need it, but it just gives me the warm and fuzzies. LOL, and I thought I was OCD
