Your kitchen is very similar to the kitchen I had in my last home. I don't have any suggestions there. What is the little closet by the fridge? If I were you I would consider switching the bathroom around so the door is on the other side. It seems like the bathroom door is pretty far from your living room & your guess room. I know it's a very small bathroom, but a jack & jill work be really great here (with pocket doors).

That is a good idea about the bathroom door. We could move the toilet and put the door there.

Bathroom: flip it vertical and horizontally (as my Paint menu items say) so that the plumbing backs up to the mudroom and the tub is behind the kitchen. Then the bathroom door is opposite the little closet door: less inconvenient for the guest room occupant, and others coming from the LR, dining room, and basement don't have to walk through the kitchen and/or mudroom to get to it.

I LOVE the island flipped. It really un-crowds the dining area. I think moving the bathroom down a bit makes a better use of space in the mud room as well. We did have laundry there to begin with and then moved it upstairs....the name never got changed, LOL.

Just come back and show us your final reveal. BTW, it occurred to me that you could omit the bathroom door off the alcove in the plan I posted--I edited to reflect that idea. It might make the room feel a little more spacious, but the door wouldn't be opening into the bathroom proper.

The mama goose plan is similar to mine. Our reach in is 5 wide by 36" deep. Floor to high ceiling shelving that can wrap around the ends and one center door on hinges. GREAT space in there. You will also have that huge mudd hall closet and the pottery display area might also be a fun place to display colorful La Cruiset dutch ovens or other nice cookware. If countertop and cabinet costs are not over budget, consider a deeper island to get storage/display/beverage frig? on the other side as well.

That wall of windows on the sink wall will be wonderful!

I was thinking that the pottery display would be more of a shallow wall rack for some of the polish pottery, similar to this one I found on atticmag:

Where will you put the microwave? I was working on refining the island--if you put the sink on the left, then the right side of the island would be a nice prep area, but also a good drop zone for incoming groceries, and easy area to load fridge and pantries. The large, deep, pot drawers could be switched out for a 24" MW drawer, and you could put a 10" deep shelf on the end of the island facing the clean-up sink, for more of the pottery pieces, cookbooks, etc. (I accounted for 1" filler, and 1" overhangs on the island.)

I do like that island layout better as well. Ug, stupid ugly microwave. I forgot about it. Can it go in the pantry? Lol.

I know you don't want to lose your reach in storage area by the fridge but you COULD make that a counter and a built in microwave and maybe a beverage fridge / drawer for a snack bar / area.
