I'm assuming this is an open-concept plan. I would recommend a chandelier that has a down-light which would illuminate the table. Ideally it would have a switch so that you can have the down-light only on, or have the other lights on with the down-light. These are extremely hard to find, however. An alternative would be to choose a fixture that is like a floating lampshade. This softens the light, and when it's on a dimmer switch, the effect is of lamplight which is easy on the eyes when you are at any location within the open space.
