Consider a sofa with an ottoman to give you more flexibility for guests, and still a great stretch out space.

Thanks all! I have a 32" flat screen (that is seven years old). I was originally planning on getting something newer/larger.

er612 - I like your suggestions. Sadly that wall is too small for the TV (front door would block part of it when open).

Agree that better to share gap in front of TV with hallway than have to create both in a narrow space, so TV on door wall.

Would consider a drop-leaf (or just narrow) table where you sketched a desk, just in case you want to have a couple of friends for dinner. Otherwise you're on the right track. (And I never thought of sketching 3D furniture like you did -- love it! easier to visualize than floor plans sometimes.)

Thanks for the suggestion, leelee! I'd prefer to go with a white desk/tables (to match the walls) instead. Just a preference over Lucite and glass... though I totally get why that would take up less visual space! Smart idea.

Just wondering, Is your living room wide enough for your couch to fit under the window?

I like where you've put the tv, even if you could fit the tv where the door is I think I would disrupt the entry: walking in, bags of groceries, hanging up coats etc.

I like the suggestion of a three-seater sofa with hr third seat extended like a chaise lounge.

If you could get your couch to fit under your window, the tv mounted on the wall you originally thought, and put two storage stools high enough for sitting on comfortably across from the couch, then the stools could provide extra seating for when guests come to visit but they also hold stuff. Also, if you choose a desk that could double as a dining room table if you want to that would be smart. Double duty right? There are drop leaf tables you could use it with one leaf extended as a desk but use both leaves out when you want to entertain.

Okay one more comment and then I'm done I promise. So for your desk area, if you got a round drop leaf table and two pretty parsons chairs in a print that could flank the table when not in use or use one when you need a desk or both when dining with the table pulled out. I love how narrow this drop leaf table gets...

Forget the parsons chairs, looks like you like modern! I pulled this from your idea book. Two of these would be great in your desk dining area don't you think?

Anyone, please jump in here...but I just looked up "distance" for watching t v. about.com
suggests it can be 5 times the width of the screen. So, if you bought a
40" screen...5 x's that number is 20', the distance from the front
window to the kitchen wall. A bigger screen would work even better.

If that is okay, you could do a right facing chaise sectional in front of the window and one swivel chair.

Valerie - Funny that you should mention that! I am saving up for an Eames fiberglass chair to serve as my main desk chair. (I know most people go for the wire or dowel bases, but I really like the regular 4-leg base--it feels very schoolhouse.)

Judy - Thank you! I do really like that style too! I'm currently looking at Therapy Furniture to see what kind of styles they can do custom. I'm leaning toward a midcentury/boxy L-shaped couch on legs and with standard/low arms.

Therapy on-line shop is not yet up and running, so couldn't take a peak at their products. Love to see what you have in mind.

I would agree with your putting a credenza on the far wall of the dining room. However, I would place the TV on the upper part of this wall, which you have earmarked for the mirror. Then, place the living room furniture in an L-shape so that you can see the TV from the living room as well as the dining room. I would suggest you place the mirror on the inside wall, opposite the seating pieces in the living room. I believe this L-shape will help with the traffic flow and give your apartment an uncluttered look.
