Replace mirror + vase with actual art. It will soften the dichromatic feel of the room.

I actually love the color on the wall, I'd suggest putting up linen panels floor to ceiling like you have them. The current panels fight with your rug, as Judy said. I would also loose the large flower vase. It's a beautiful space, just make a few tweaks

I think it is beautiful. The only change I'd make is to relocate the vase. It is hogging the attention. I don't mind the rug/drapes combo. Really lovely room. Also love the chairs!

Lovely room! Try removing the flowers, as others have suggested, and hemming the drapes.

I like the room, if you want to go lighter, pull a light blue from the rug and it will brighten the room, and you may not have to change anything else. Or, you could also paint the chairs white if it isn't an expensive set.

It looks like you have a couple 5" recess lights in the corner of the room, I would replace them with 2" or 4" recessed lights and add some between each corner light. The darker color paints make rooms look so small so you need to make up for it with the correct natural lighting or LED lighting.

Replace the vase,lamps and mirror with a bright modern painting. Then select one colour from painting to then use to dye your chair fabric. Give it a modern twist if that is to your taste? I'm also thinking the curtains pooling on the floor is a bit old fashioned so keep them long but just touching floor? I wonder if turning the table vertically would be more symmetrical and allow the light to hit the dark wood a bit more?

I would change the drapes to a white lined linen to just touch the floor. I love the color combination in the room. Change out the vase & mirror with a large painting as suggested earlier. Your ceilings, wainscotting & light fixture are perfect as is the area rug.

The dark blue wall is right on trend, really now!! Secondly it's great to have the drama in a dining room. I like your chairs too, and they look comfortable. Just take the curtains up a bit.

Your buffet lamps don't have any "presence." Maybe its the vase overpowering them, but I think you need some bling like crystal or silver there. Would you consider silver on the ceiling? Or perhaps some wallpaper there. It seems to be crying for it! I think your vase could be turned upside down and topped with a candle in a glass hurricane shade and stood on the floor somewhere. If the curtains wouldn't be in danger of fire, it would look nice between the windows. If you're keeping the drapes line and hem them. Unlined drapes can really look cheap, and that's not the look you want here. If you decide on new furniture consider a round table.

Love your blue. I'm not a fan of drapes puddling on the floor.

I'd change rug and drapes before wall color unless you have a strong preference for a specific color. Always get fabric first and match wall to fabrics in room.

can i put white wood chairs with this table & buffet? They were pretty expensive so painting scares me but it may be worth it?

Ummm...I like it. You certainly can get a different feel with a light color. I like the idea of actual art on the wall...do the downlights work? This is a classic look. Maybe artwork with wall mounted lights above. I agree also with changing the rug and drapes first. The wall color contrast is a bold statement. I personally like it, but I might darken the wainscot. I think that you have something nice going...maybe just tweaks...

That room is gorgeous. I love the wall colors and millwork! What if you added more white in the drapes and the end chairs as shown in picture #1 and then fill the other seats with smaller chairs with gray fabric. Maybe lay down a gray rug too.

I don't think you need to go stark white. Cream is warmer. I like the idea of covering the end chairs. You might go with a beautiful print which could be any number of beautiful colors too.

You can paint those chairs although we need a close up of the upholstery for suggestions how to do.

The ceiling that is so lovely needs something to show off the design. Pale blue? With two tones of white. Kind of reflecting the rug pattern.

And I would put lace on the buffet to draw attention to the corner. Lamps are good, light piece of art on wall .

If your woodwork is creamy white, how does it look with the gray in the other room? Is it the only room with creamy white? Just trying to get a big picture.

Im glad you asked! My decorator picked out warm browns and Im not a fan of my entry way colors or main room/kitchen (not pictured) , Id like to repaint grays into the home and lighten everything up but the woodwork makes it very difficult. See pics below

The chairs i think just remind me of a burlap material... theres nothing really wrong with them - theres just nothing special about them. I like a lighter look I guess.

What about reupholstering the chairs? I think this photo which someone posted above is gorgeous!

Beautiful home. If you're not happy with the brown hues your designer chose, change them.

It's difficult to see the actual wall colors--daytime photos would be great. I'm sure we could suggest paint colors that could coordinate with your woodwork. :))

I think you can absolutely do cream instead of white in seating and drapes to go with your woodwork but if you're trying to lose that warm undertone overall and move it to a more cool one with grays maybe you want to consider altering the painted wood. That's a big step though since it involves the whole house. Perhaps you could get some pretty slipcovers on your chairs in a lighter cream that matches your woodwork and see if that helps brighten your room.

I think your home is lovely. The blue walls look great with the white trim and accents and the ceiling is beautiful! Leave it alone. I do like the idea of a bold work of art against the dark wall though and a few of the other little fixes; no big thing. My biggest problem; and it may be just that this is a night shot, is how dark your sideboard is and how that looks like a black hole back there. Maybe the glint of silver or gold, mirror or anything light....

The dark blue is too over powering.

table is too large for the room when your having family over

the puddling of the drapes and the shape of the orb chandelier make the ceiling look lower. its like, the internal chandelier itself is fine, but i dont like the orb around it, it makes it too large for this space, over a table.

but you dont live in an edgey loft in soho, you live in a real chandelier-appropriate house.

lovely room- removing the vase of flowers was a good move. I know you said you love the drapes but they are too long. If you really want to keep them you need to have them hemmed. I also agree the drapes and rug do not really work well together so a change in one or the other would be recommended. I would play up the ceiling. It is a lovely room tho and I personally like the blue.
