Need help with my kitchen.

We are moving to a new home in June and the kitchen is a little outdated. We have an extremely tight budget and would like to freshen up the look with painting or refinishing the cabinets, painting the walls and updating light fixtures and window treatments. We like neutral colors, and mostly like traditional, transitional and farm house styles. Any advice on how to update the kitchen on a budget would be greatly appreciated!

Paint the walls and change the ceiling light. Then live with it for a year so you 'll have a better handle on how the kitchen works for you.

It is really quite nice the way it is! Doesn't look dated to me. I would definately change the valance on the window over the sink, and change the ceiling light. The vent on ceiling needs to be replaced or painted white.

I would keep things off the top of the cabinets, update the fluorescent lighting fixture, paint over all the faux/sponged finished walls. If you need more change, think about painting the top cabinets or replacing one side of tops with shelving.

Not a bad space but I would have the cabinets painted chage the lighting get rif ot the window covering and don’t put anything on top of the cabinets change the handles I would use a creamy white for the cabinets to work with the floor and counter and maybe down the road change some of the uppers to glass doors

I appreciate your opinion, thank you! I like the idea of painting the cabinets a creamy white. Do you think it is okay to creamy white with the pantry door being bright white, or will that not matter?

Thank you for your input! I don't like all of the stuff on top of the cabinets either, that will be the first thing to go! Lol. I want to replace the fluorescent light but I am not great with design and I am not sure what kind of lighting to put there. That will be my next step.

The world is your oyster. You could do track, recessed, or ceiling lighting. I recently installed this 3-light semi-flush in my smaller galley kitchen. If I had more room I would install a pendent at the sink as well. Installing fixtures is easier than you might think. I had a monstrosity of florescent ceiling light before, and thought I would uncover a big hole under it, but no.

I'm not sure if you've seen this thread, but her kitchen was pretty similar and a couple of updates made a world of difference. You have nice counters, so there isn't much expense to make a big change if you are DIY.
