Termite treatment and sentricon effectiveness?

I usually am on the kitchen forum but need help with termite treatment. We just discovered them in our home and have had 2 companies out for estimates to take care of them. Both companies use sentricon and both come back annually to check the bait stations. One company guarantees against future damage to the house. The other company does not. Does sentricon take care of the colonies or will new ones start up? This will make a difference as to whether we take the more expensive proposal with the better warranty.

I'm surprised they guarantee anything because the way sentricon works (we have it) is random. There is no guarantee at all whether of not your termites will stumble on one of the stations, or when. The company we hired has at least been responsive in coming back every time I've called with what I think is a sign of a termite (hoping they can at least treat the swarm). All subsequent appearances turned out to be ants, which is supposedly a good thing because ants eat termites. What is annoying is having to pay year after year to keep the stations. If you stop renewing they remove the stations. Then, if you get another infestation, you will have to pay the upfront cost of installation all over again and I'm sure your prior warranty is void. It feels like a scam, but I did go to my cooperative extension office and they did verify that I had found termites and also recommended treating them this way. I didn't have any other options since we're on a slab. Also the old chemicals are all now banned I think. You have my sympathy!

Kitasei thank you for your response! They told us that the old chemicals were banned and sentricon was the current treatment. We just did not know how effect bait stations are. I appreciate your sharing about ants eating termites. That bit of good news is new to me. Yay!

We had the option of going the Sentricon way or the trench with Termidor way. We chose Termidor which seems like it would react faster with the termites than having the bugs find bait stations. For that reason is why I wasn't keen on the Sentricon. We do keep and annual contract ($125) and they come out and inspect for any activity around the perimeter and inside the home. If they should find any (which they haven't), they will re-do the treatment for $0. As I stated in another post, once you have termites, you have to acknowledge it when selling your home, and possibly (if asked) show receipts that you are under an annual maintenance contract and have the termites damage repaired by a licensed contractor...at least in my state.
