Paint them with farrow & ball eggshell interior paint. Painted kitchens are the happening trend at the moment especially with a 'salvage look' you could also paint the chairs and table to match - just sand down a little afterwards with fine grade paper get a real salvage look look at creams or possible a light grey (the warmer tones) it will look fab!

Your cabinets are very plain and not dated, so I agree that painting them would go a long way. Do you have colors in mind already for the granite and tiles?

I was thinking lighter colors for the floor and countertops and maybe darker cabinets. I was considering staining the cabinets darker but I'm not against paint. I don't have any experience either way. I like the dark browns and black cabinets. Thanks for the comments

Black would look really nice! You could add glass (or frosted glass) to the upper cabinet doors to help dress it up. That would look really nice with black cabinets and help it feel not so heavy. Also suggest doing something with the wood paneling above the uppers. Paint to match walls or replace with drywall then paint? Also suggest adding recessed lights and/or under cabinet lights. An updated ceiling fan or fixture would add a lot too.

The cabinet paint will depend on the color of tile and granite you choose. I agree, though, a good quality paint in a neutral color chosen from the tile or granite would be sharp. I would suggest staying on the light side since the kitchen is smallish and the window doesn't appear to bring a lot of light. Could you stand to lose the uppers on the right side over the peninsula? That would make a huge difference. You could put in tall cabinets on the left side of the eat-in area for storage. Or 2 tall cabinets with a buffet between them with drawers.

A reface (also known as a recover) would replace the doors and drawer fronts and then the cases would be covered in a material to match the new product. This is usually about 1/2 the cost of new. We would recommend having a professional out to assess the state of your cabinets before putting heavy granite counters on top.

I will definitely refinish the cabinets. The color depends on what color scheme you are thinking for the tile floor and the granite counter tops it needs to work together. I will also think of doing the backsplash in glass mosaics combining of course with the granite and tile that brings color in, which will make the Kitchen more inviting and happy. And if you could add some under the counter lighting (LED lights) will be great, like suggested above will be amazing with the glass mosaics!

I definitely vote for LIGHTER cabinets not darker-- the kitchen does not appear to get that much light--

This is a spacious kitchen with a good layout and large window plus wide sliding glass doors. I think it photographs dark because the lights were off. Are you planning to replace the ceiling fans with brighter fixtures? Does local code require that new lighting be energy efficient? Will you be keep both refrigerators? How about new hardware?

The door going out isn't a sliding door it's actually a double door that opens to the inside. I will be replacing the ceiling fans and hardware not sure with what yet just trying to get ideas. The refrigerators will be replaced with one stainless unit and I want to add lights under the cabinets. I don't think I have any codes to follow I'm pretty far in the woods. Lol..

Thanks for the answers. Your ideabook shows an even split between light and dark cabinets. In that case, I'd recommend choosing and installing new light fixtures first, including the undercabinet lights you mentioned. With dark cabinets, you need more light in the room. You could try out the overall effect of darker or lighter cabinets by taping some light or dark paper over them. Cheap and easy.

I like the idea of taping different colors to the cabinets cause I have a real hard time seeing what the finish product would look like. I just can't figure out which way to do the cabinets paint or stain. I'm sure either way they would need to be stripped and sanded. I just don't know which way would be easier for me to do since I've never done either one.
