Need advice for a farm style kitchen table

I want a farm style kitchen table a la restoration hardware, but I don't want to have to worry about my young children ruining the table. They would eat, draw and play on the table. Must be easy to wipe clean and not leave rings. Does this table exist?

The finish on the table will be what keeps it safe but in my experience wood tables with children will take knocks and that is what all farm tables did so if you want a perfect table finish you will have to keep your children in check or get a table with a granite top

I suggest you check out Pier1. They have some very reasonably priced tables that are easy to care for. When the kids are older you can invest in a higher quality table.

Have you tried antique hunting/second hand...there are lots of farmhouse tables that are already marked which adds to the charm..so one or two more will only add your history (I carved my sister's initials into one of our tables) - lol. I just found this one quickly for $350 on eBay and it would be outstanding with the right chairs and refinished, which is an easy job and just add the right top of top coat to help with water marks. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Early-1900s-Original-Antique-Farm-House-Table-29-tall-x-39-wide-x-60-long-/141957084751
