Awkward Living Room Setup for TV

Our living room is a bit of an awkward space. Check out the picture attached (ignore the colors and dated kitchen... we haven't renovated/painted yet). It's looking into the room from the hall doorway. There is about the same amount of wall space on both sides of the fireplace. Our large sofa will back up to the wall on the right - it's a sectional, so the exposed back of the sofa will face away from the kitchen. My dilemma is - where to put the TV? I've had suggestions to mount it above the mantel, but I really hate to make the TV such a focal point of the room. I've honestly never been a fan of fireplace-mounted TVs. So that begs the question - where to put it? On either side of the tv? Which side? Should I build a bookcase/tv cabinet on the wall for it? Ideally I'd like to be able to hide the tv, but I don't want a big clunky armoire or anything. Or, should I just suck it up and mount it on the fireplace? Thanks for your help!
