Your local nursery may offer a design service. A fountain could act as a focal point with new plantings to enhance it. The other small decorative items could be moved to the back yard if they don't coordinate well with the new fountain. The existing shrubs may be transplanted.

With any North facing house, there is
always the potential that planting areas at the front of the home, will or
could potentially lack sun exposure. With that said, the amount of daily sun
exposure ought to be considered, prior to the selection of planting material.

As it is currently, the home appears to
lack colour. Additional to this, planting appears to be out of scale, meaning
large spanning areas with plants that appear to be too small for the area.
Colour and appropriate use of space, will add a new more eye catching dynamic
to the areas directly in front of the verandah. It would be my suggestion to
add a line of taller plants, specifically either a Silver Leaf Dogwood or a
Prairie Fire Dogwood along the front of the verandah. This suggested species of
plant will offer accent hues of reds Greens Silvers and Burgundy. We would
recommend placing a taller variation of the suggested species, in a position
that allows some separation of the verandah from the garden bed itself.

In addition to the space directly in front
of the verandah, the large area to the west side is prime for planting, given
its proximity to “late day sun” this opens up planting suggestion to more
robust species of which will get the sun required to produce colour.

In closing and as our final suggestion, we
would recommend not placing a water
feature in the front of the home, unless a seating / lounging area is being
constructed in that space.

Remove the yellow shrubs that are blocking the view of the porch. The hedge against the wall needs to be trimmed. I like the fountain but where are you thinking of putting it?
